12th December At Kiveton Pit Top today were 20 Yellowhammer, 9 Reed Bunting, a flock of finches feeding on Alders. Including c100 Goldfinch, 10 Lesser Redpoll and 4 Siskin plus c150 Fieldfare, c10 Redwing & 11 Blackbird (Brian Chambers).

10th December Barn Owl again early morning by main road to Oldcotes by Long Thwaite Wood (Tony Hancock).

7th December Barn Owl over Oldcotes road, near Long Thwaite Wood (Tony Hancock). Near Swinston Hill Wood today were 200 Black-headed Gull, 20 Common Gull and a Buzzard (Mick Clay).

25th Kingfisher on the swollen stream at Firbeck today (Dave Wright).

18th November The groups wildfowl count produced low numbers throughout the square. Langold Lake held 5 Great Crested Grebe, 2ad & 3 imm Mute Swan, 27 Coot, 11 Mallard, 12 Tufted Duck, 4 Moorhen, Heron, 2 Gadwall, Cormorant, 32 Canada Geese, 2 Common Gull and 2 Herring Gull. At Roche Abbey were 16 Waxwing @ Woodsetts © Gareth PictonMallard & 2 Teal. Firbeck produced 6 Coot, 2 Mute Swan, 2 Mallard, and 20 Moorhen, while Carlton Lake held 5 Teal and at Brown Bailey's were 16 Coot, Tufted Duck with 9 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 4 Great Black-backed Gulls over (Andy Hirst, Mick Clay, John Gallagher, Janet Allsop & Clive Gretton).

16th November At Kiveton Pit Top today were 350 Golden Plover,15 Tree Sparrow, 6 Lesser Redpoll, 21 Yellowhammer, 20 Greenfinch, 60 Goldfinch, 20 Reed Bunting, 7 Meadow Pipit & 8 Siskin. 15th November 9 Waxwing >NNW over a Throapham garden this lunchtime (Andy Hirst). Over Laughton Common were 250 Pink-footed Geese >E at 10:45 in two skeins (John Gallagher). A Barn Owl at Penny Hill, Firbeck observed at 22:00 (Dave Wright).

12th November 2 Barn Owl hunting in garden/ paddocks to the south of Springfield Terrace, Dinnington at 07:00 (Clive Gretton).

11th November From Kings Wood corner in an hour this afternoon were 6 Buzzard soaring and a Crossbill >N (Andy Hirst).

9th November At Langold Lake today a Water Rail and Kingfisher (John Gallagher).

8th November At Axle Lane today a f Merlin catching prey (Mick Clay).

6th November At Langold Lake today, an ad Great Crested Grebe feeding a juvenile (still downy) this probably the bird which was sat on a nest on 7th September (late breeder!) (Mick Clay).

5th November At Langold Lake today were were 4 Cormorant (1 on lake & 3 over), Heron, 1m Gadwall, 1m Pochard, 20 Tufted Duck, 1f Goldeneye, 4 Song Thrush, 4 Redwing and 20 Siskin (Lyn & Geoff Facer).

3rd November At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 11 Snipe, Jack Snipe, Goosander >N and 38 Black-headed Gull. NAPT produced 2 Willow Tit and Lesser Redpoll (John Gallagher). Brambling over Throapham (Andy Hirst).

28th October Early morning at Axle Lane produced Brambling, 83 Skylark and 42 Meadow Pipit all >S, 200 Starling >W, 43 Golden Plover, Kestrel, Buzzard feeding on a Woodpigeon at Penny Piece (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top were 7 Mallard, 12 Teal, single Wigeon, 7 Little Grebe, 10 Snipe, single Jack Snipe, Jay, 2 Cormorant, 2 Green Woodpecker, Sparrowhawk, 12 Grey Partridge, 20 Meadow Pipit, 80 Golden Plover >S, 500 Fieldfare >W & 200 Redwing >W (John Gallagher).

27th October At Doles Wood today were 80 Golden Plover, 50 Lapwing, 45 Black-headed Gull and 2 Brambling. Langold Lake held Kingfisher and Grey Wagtail. By Woodsetts Road were 80 Black-headed Gull, 60 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 15 Common Gull. Hodsock Flash held 200 Goldfinch and 80 Teal (John Gallagher).

25th October At Axle Lane today a Yellow-legged Gull feeding with 150 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Possibly the same bird which was seen earlier in week. 31 Redwing >W also (Mick Clay).

24th October Fieldfare >S over Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

21st October At Axle Lane today, a Twite calling amongst a flock of 100 Linnet on the main path by the ponds as well as 234 Skylark, 3 Yellowhammer, 30 Meadow Pipit, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, Siskin and Lesser Redpoll >S. Also a Comma butterfly (Mick Clay).

20th October At Roche Abbey today were 3 Marsh Tit, 6 Coal Tit, 26 Long-tailed Tit, 10 Blue Tit, 3 Goldcrest, 2 Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Bullfinch, 3 Redwing, 20 Siskin, Lesser Redpoll, 10 Teal, Little Grebe and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay). Thurcroft Pit Top produced 10 Snipe, 7 Little Grebe, 3 Reed Bunting, Cormorant, 3 Jay & 8 Mallard. Lingodell held Brambling, Cormorant, Heron, 75 Black-headed Gull, 8 Pied Wagtail & 2 Little Owl (John Gallagher).

16th October A Kingfisher at Kingswood Close. Caught and ate a fish (Dave Wright).

10th October At Axle Lane today were 5 Redwing & 30 Skylark >S, Lesser Redpoll >N, 10 Golden Plover and 64 Lesser Black-backed Gull (Mick Clay).

9th October F Whinchat at Stone today (Dave Wright).

8th October Early morning at Axle Lane were Pink-footed Geese heard >W in fog and 50 >W late evening (Mick Clay).

7th October At Axle Lane today were 80 Linnet,114 Skylark with a general movement of birds >S inc. Green Woodpecker, 2 Jay >W, Kestrel, 2 Buzzard, Golden Plover, 50 Pink-footed Geese >E and 250 >W (Mick Clay).

30th September Very few wildfowl around- Langold Lake held 4 Great Crested Grebe, just 10 Coot, 15 Mallard, 11 Tufted Duck, 9 Moorhen, 6 Greylag Geese, 165 Canada Geese, Cormorant as well as 6 Siskin, 2 Jay, 3 Chiffchaff, and Grey Wagtail. At Hodsock were c50 Goldfinch, 3 Grey Wagtail, 6 Teal, 2 Mallard and 4 Greylag Geese >S- just 6 Teal at Roche Abbey (Andy Hirst, Mick Clay, John Gallagher, Andy Murray and Mike Prime).

29th September Along Brands Lane today were 60+ Skylark, 30 Yellowhammer, 2 Golden Plover, 20 Grey Partridge, 3 Red-legged Partridge, 20 Chaffinch, 20 Goldfinch and 10 Meadow Pipit >S (John Gallagher).

10th September At Axle Lane today were 24 Golden Plover and 4 Wheatear (Mick Clay). A f Wigeon at Tommy Flockton's Marsh today (Geoff Facer).

9th September At Axle Lane today were 149 Lesser Black- backed Gulls and 5 Wheatear (Mick Clay).

7th September At Axle Lane today were 2 Kestrel, Wheatear, Grey Wagtail >S, 10 Golden Plover and 92 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. At Langold Lake were Kingfisher, 6 Chiffchaff, Lesser Redpoll, Siskin and 2 Great Crested Grebe with one on a nest! (Mick Clay).

2nd September Kingfisher at Kingswood Close, Firbeck (David Wright). Siskin over Dinnington Marsh and Axle Lane. Over a South Anston garden were Peregrine, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay).

31st August At Axle Lane today, a Golden Plover (Mick Clay). 2 Kingfishers and a Grey Wagtail at Langold Lake (David Wright).

25th August At Dinnington Marsh today were 6 Willow Tit, 13 Robin, 2 Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, Treecreeper, 5 Bullfinch, Jay, Song Thrush, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Greenshank >S (Mick Clay).

24th August Spotted Flycatchers again along the Chesterfield Canal at Cinderhill (John Gallagher). A Kingfisher at Kingswood Close, Firbeck (David Wright).

23rd August At Axle Lane today, the first Golden Plover returned as well as 67 Swallow and 45 House Martin >S (Mick Clay).

22nd August At Dinnington Marsh, an ad Hobby >NE (Mick Clay).

21st August Early morning at Axle Lane were 27 Carrion Crow, 3 Yellow Wagtail, 26 Swallow >S and 39 Lapwing >W (Mick Clay).

20th August Early morning at Hodsock failed to produce Wood Sandpiper, however Green Sandpiper >W and Hobby >S. Also around were 25+ Yellow Wagtail, mostly juv's, 18 Mallard, 15 Tree Sparrow, 2 Green Woodpecker, c100 Swallow, 3 House Martin and a Sand Martin (Andy Hirst). Kingfisher regularly to a Firbeck garden (David Wright).

At Harry Crofts Quarry today were 3 Buzzard, juv. Green Woodpecker, Little Owl and Tree Pipit >S. Earlier this morning were Raven and Green Sandpiper here (John Gallagher & Andy Murray). 18th August Early morning at Axle Lane were 2 juv Peregrine hunting Woodpigeon and 2 Buzzard. At Dinnington Marsh in the late afternoon were a juv. Hobby >S and 4 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

15th August At NAPT this morning were 2 Snipe feeding at the edge of the scrape, 28 Lapwing, 5 Moorhen including 3 juv, 2 Wheatear & Whinchat both on fence posts in the horse field (Brian Chambers). Kingfisher at NAPT today (Andy Murray). 2 Cormorant at Lingodell (David Wright).

12th August At Dinnington Marsh were 4 Willow Tit, 4 Bullfinch, 5 Willow Warbler, 2 Treecreeper and 2 Kestrel. At NAPT were 24 Lapwing, Kingfisher, 6 Willow Warbler, 5 Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warbler and juv. Green Woodpecker. Plus 4 Buzzard over Hawks Wood (Mick Clay). Kingfisher in a Firbeck garden (David Wright). 16:00 at Hodsock were Greenshank, Green Sandpiper & 2 Teal (Brian Chambers).

11th August 2 Greenshank at NAPT (Mick Clay & Alan Bradford). At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 6 Snipe and 16 Curlew >NW. Hodsock Flash produced Greenshank and 3 Snipe (John Gallagher).

10th August At Dinnington Marsh today were Lesser Whitethroat, 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Willow Tit, 4 Bullfinch and 2 Tree Sparrow. At NAPT were 3 Reed Warbler, Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, Willow Tit, 2 Kestrel and Buzzard (Mick Clay).

9th August At Axle Lane this morning were 23 Reed Bunting (mainly juv's), 6 Yellow Wagtail and Corn Bunting (Mick Clay).

7th August Early morning at Axle Lane were 5 Whitethroat and 3 Yellow Wagtail. Mid-morning over South Anston, a Curlew >S. Late evening produced a m Wheatear on the main path (Mick Clay).

5th August At Hodsock today were Greenshank, 13 Lapwing, Snipe, 6 Yellow Wagtail, 10 Pied Wagtail, 400 Starling, Green Woodpecker, 10 Skylark, 10 Tree Sparrow and a Little Grebe. At Harry Crofts Quarry were Barn Owl, 3 Buzzard, 11 Whitethroat and at Axle Lane; 140 Swift >S (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 2ad. and 2 juv. Little Grebe (John Gallagher & Andy Murray).

4th August At Hodsock Flash today were Greenshank, Little Grebe, 55 Lapwing, 25 Pied Wagtail, 12 Yellow Wagtail, 120 Starling, 45 House Sparrow, 10 Skylark and 3 Buzzard (John Gallagher).

3rd August Early morning at NAPT produced Merlin >S, 2 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 2 Reed Warbler and Little Grebe. At Dinnington Marsh were 14 Willow Warbler, 2 Willow Tit, 7 Bullfinch, Buzzard, Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk (1f & 1Juv.) (Mick Clay).

29th July At NAPT a juv. Little Grebe on the main pond and what appeared to be a Buzzard carrying a Grass Snake, plus 1 Black-tailed Skimmer. In a cut grass field at Dinnington Marsh were 72 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Common Gull, 5 Black-headed Gull and 4 Bullfinch. Plus Ringed Plover >S & Curlew >W which may have landed on Brampton (Mick Clay).

28th July Insect News- At NAPT 2m and 1f Black-tailed Skimmers (Mick Clay).

21st July At NAPT this morning were 58 Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, Little Ringed Plover calling, 8 Reed Warbler, 13 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 3 Willow Tit and 3 Song Thrush. Over a South Anston garden were 4 Buzzard and Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay). At NAPT a Golden Plover over. At Langold Lake were 2ad. & 3juv. Grey Wagtail & Kingfisher (John Gallagher).

18th July A report of a Nightingale singing at Lindrick Golf Course this morning (Per Brian Chambers).

16th July Corn Bunting Present all week at Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

9th July A Grey Wagtail in a Firbeck Garden (David Wright).

8th July At Kiveton Pit Top today were Sedge Warbler and Common Tern (Mick Clay). Early evening at a site within the square were 6 Barn Owls and Long-eared Owl (Mick Clay & Andy Murray).

7th July AT NAPT this morning was a steady passage of Swift, c75 House Martin and 30 Swallow. Also around were 6ad & 6 juv Lapwing, including some less than a week old, as well as 3 Reed Warbler, 4 Reed Bunting, Kestrel, c75 Jackdaw, c15 Linnet, 6 Meadow Pipit, 4ad & 4 juv. Moorhen, Grey Partridge, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Chiffchaff, 4 Skylark, 2 Stock Dove, 3 Mallard & Heron (Andy Hirst). Kingfisher in a Firbeck Garden (David Wright).

30th June By Thornberry Animal Sanctuary were Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat and Grey Partridge. At Langold Lake were Grey Wagtail & Kingfisher. At Thurcroft Marsh today were 2 Reed Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, 10 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler, 5 Blackcap, Grasshopper Warbler, Great Spotted Woodpecker & Green Woodpecker. Thurcroft Pit Top produced 2 Reed Warbler, Little Grebe, 25 Meadow Pipit, 12 Skylark & 15 Reed Bunting. Axle Lane yielded Common Tern on the ponds, 3 Quail calling (2 in Wheat field and 1 in Barley field) (John Gallagher).

At Brown Bailey's today were 3 Great Crested Grebe & 3 juv' s. At Langold Lake were 2 Mute Swan with 5 juv's from last year, 6 Great Crested Grebe & 7 juv's, 123 Canada Geese & 42 juv's and a single Common Tern (Geoff & Lyn Facer).

27th April At Tommy Flockton's Marsh today were 2 pairs of Gadwall and Yellow Wagtail. At NAPT were 2 Greylag Geese, Common Sandpiper and 6 Wheatear. At Langold Lake, a Common Sandpiper, 3 Greylag Geese and 2 Wheatear. Hodsock produced 2 Yellow Wagtail, Swift >N, 3 Gadwall, 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Buzzard & 3 Dunlin (John Gallagher).

19th April Single Great Crested Grebe nest at Langold Lake, one pair with 3 juv's on the parents back. Sadly an imm bird had to be taken in to care and subsequently put to sleep having gone over the weir for a second time, badly breaking it's wing. A sad end to magnificent bird. Also here were 2 pairs of Gadwall. A pair of Gadwall at Hodsock, plus 2m and 1f Yellow Wagtail, c10 Pied Wagtail, c40 Swallow and 3 Meadow Pipit. Carlton Lake held 6 Coot, 2 Great Crested Grebe, Greylag Goose, and a pair of Tufted Duck. At Brown Bailey's were 3 Mallard, 3 Canada Geese, 2ad and 1 Great Crested Grebe nest, 3 Coot with 2 juv's, a pair of Sparrowhawk in the woodlandBuzzard over. At NAPT were Snipe, 12 Lapwing and single juv & 3 Mallard. From Kings Wood corner were 5 Buzzard, Siskin, 3 Lapwing >N, 2 Marsh Tit, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. At Brown Bailey's were just 4 Sand Martin, a pair of Sparrowhawk in the wood, Great Crested Grebe nest, a Coot with 2 chicks, 4 pairs of Tufted Duck and a Heron (Andy Hirst).

18th April At NAPT today was a Lapwing with a single chick. Plus Snipe, c20 Linnet and 4 Mallard. At Langold Lake were 6 Mute Swan, c25 Swallow, single House Martin, a pair of Gadwall, 2 Great Crested Grebe nests and 2 Willow Warbler (Andy Hirst). A Barn Owl nest with 7 eggs at a site within the square (Chris Lilley).

16th April 20 Buzzard from Kings Wood Corner, plus a steady passage of Swallow and House Martin >N. Plenty of Chiffchaff and Blackcap in the wood (Andy Hirst). At Langold Lake were 5 Blackcap, including 1 f, 8 Chiffchaff, 3 Robin, 6 Mute Swan, 20 Tufted Duck, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 12 Mallard, 2 Greylag Geese, 20 Coot, 70 Canada Geese, 5 Great Crested Grebe including 1 with chicks, Sparrowhawk, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldfinch, 2 Goldcrest and single Swallow (Alan Bradford).

15th April Pied Flycatcher briefly in private wood s within the square (per Chris Lilley). At Roche Abbey today were 9 Blackcap, 11 Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker,6 Nuthatch, Marsh Tit, 2 displaying Sparrowhawk and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay). From Kings Wood Corner today was an Osprey >N, circled over Sandbeck for 20 minutes before heading off high >W (John Gallagher, John O'Malley, Mick Clay & Andy Murray). At Thurcroft Pit Top were 4 Wheatear and a Little Ringed Plover (John Gallagher & Mick Clay). Late afternoon at Axle Lane was a Yellow Wagtail (Mick Clay).

14th April At Axle Lane this morning were Axle Lane 5 Sand Martin >W and 2 Corn Bunting (Mick Clay). At NAPT were 2 Snipe, 2 Wheatear, m Ring Ouzel & Green Sandpiper plus 2 Swallow and 2 Sand Martin >N (John Gallagher & Mick Clay).

11th April At Kiveton Pit Top was a single Short-eared Owl showing well on the east side, plus 4 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, Blackcap and m & f Green Woodpecker. Also a Barn Owl nesting within the square (Mick Clay).

10th April In Harry Crofts Quarry were Buzzard, 5 Wheatear (3m & 2f) and Swallow >NW (Mick Clay).

7th April NAPT this morning produced 5 Chiffchaff, 5 Skylark, 38 Starling, 3 pairs of Mallard, 6 pairs of Lapwing, Grey Partridge, Lesser Redpoll >N, 2 Snipe, c20+ Meadow Pipit, 2 Canada Geese >S, Heron, 3 Stock Dove, Mute Swan >W, 3 Kestrel, 3 Siskin and Redshank >NW (Andy Hirst). At Thurcroft Marsh today was a Willow Warbler. At Kings Wood corner 4 Sand Martin >N, 10 Buzzard and 3 Sparrowhawk. At Lingodell were 300 Fieldfare. Hodsock held 2 Buzzard with 5 at Langold Lake and 4 over Carlton (Mick Clay). A Swallow >N over NAPT (Mick Clay). At Langold Lake; House Martin feeding over water (Mick Clay). At Hodsock were 2 pairs of Mallard, 4 Skylark, and Buzzard. Langold Lake produced single House Martin, 6 Mute Swan (2ad nest building & 4 imm. from last year), 31 Coot, 12 Tufted Duck, 18 Mallard, Buzzard, 6 Great Crested Grebe (3 nests), 4 Greylag Geese, 6 Moorhen, 4 Blackcap and 2 Gadwall (Andy Hirst).

From Turnerwood to Hawks Wood were 2 pairs of Grey Wagtail, 7 Mallard, a pair of Mute Swan, 3 Pied Wagtail, 5 Coot, f Tufted Duck, Heron & 8 Chiffchaff. Around Hawks Wood were 3 Lesser Redpoll, 4 Chiffchaff, m Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, nesting Nuthatch, 3 Mallard, 3 Blackcap, and Linnet.

In Harry Crofts quarry were 9 Meadow Pipit, several Reed Bunting, 2 Lapwing, Green Sandpiper, 2 Little Ringed Plover and Grey Wagtail. At Hodsock were Buzzard, 3 Lapwing, 130 Golden Plover, 2 Mallard and a pair of Teal (Andy Hirst).

At Thurcroft Pit Top were 9 Reed Bunting, f Pochard, being the highlights. Little Owl at Carr showed well. However Kings Wood corner produced 34 Buzzard in the air at once (new record)- the day produced a total of 63 Buzzard from 5 sites only. Also at Kings Wood corner were 3 Cormorant >N. Lingodell produced 30+ Fieldfare and a Heron, plus 7 Buzzard from NAPT (Andy Hirst, Mick Clay, John Gallagher & Geoff Facer).

At Brown Bailey's were 4 Chiffchaff, 8 Coot, Great Crested Grebe, 26 Tufted Duck, Sand Martin and 2 Moorhen. At Carlton Lake were 5 Coot, 3 Mallard, 2 Greylag Geese, 5 Canada Geese, Grey Wagtail, 3 Chiffchaff, a pair of Gadwall, and 2 Sand Martin. 22nd March A f Goshawk >NE over South Anston and Buzzard (Mick & James Clay). At Kiveton Woodlands today were 3 Tree Sparrow, 2 Skylark and 4 Meadow Pipit (Darren Carnall). As well as 3 Grey Partridge, 3 Yellowhammer, Chiffchaff, 2 Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk (Stan & Sue Cullen).

21st March At Kiveton Woodlands today were 4 Tree Sparrow, 2 Lapwing, 2 Mallard, 6 Meadow Pipit, 4 Skylark, 20 Lesser Redpoll and 4 Siskin (Darren Carnall). At Lindrick Golf Course today were 3 Chiffchaff. Brown Bailey's held 22 Tufted Duck, 7 Mallard, 11 Coot, 3 Moorhen, Great Crested Grebe & 2 Chiffchaff. With 2 Greylag Goose at Carlton Lake. At Hodsock were 3 Lapwing, and a m Teal (Brian Chambers).

At Hodsock Flash were 2 Oystercatcher, 25 Pied Wagtail & Grey Wagtail. From Kings Wood Corner were 4 Lesser Redpoll. Dinnington Pit Top held 2 Tawny Owl (John Gallagher). 13th March At a site within the square were Long-eared Owl hunting and 2 Woodcock roding (Mick Clay).

12th March At Langold Lake today were 25 Tufted Duck, 8 Mute Swan, 7 Great Crested Grebe, 22 Mallard, single drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker, 6 Gadwall, pair of Long-tailed Tits, single Green Woodpecker, 4 Wren, 3 Coal Tit and a pair of Treecreeper (Pauline & Alan Bradford).

11th March 2 very early Sand Martin (earliest ever by 6 days) and Wheatear at Carlton Lake (Mark Smithson via Twitter). From Kings Wood this morning were single Hawfinch heard, 16 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Tawny Owl, 4 Great Black-backed Gull, a steady passage of Redwing >N/ NW, 2 Mute Swan, 3 Marsh Tit and several Nuthatch. The highlight was a m Merlin chasing passerines (John O'Malley, Andy Hirst & Mick Clay). At NAPT were 28 Lapwing and 19 Mallard & hardly any water! (Mick Clay & Andy Hirst). At Kiveton Pit Top were 7 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Willow Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard. Over Hawks Wood and Loscar Wood were 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

10th March At Kings Wood today were 2 Buzzard, 6 Nuthatch, 2 Song Thrush, Treecreeper, 2 Goldcrest and single Hawfinch. In the game cover nearby were 30 Chaffinch, 60 Linnet, 16 Yellowhammer, 2 Reed Bunting and 14 Tree Sparrow. At Lingodell were 100 Fieldfare and at Langold Lake were 9 Great Crested Grebe (Mick Clay).

9th March Today at Kiveton Pit Woodlands were 12 Tree Sparrow, 4 Chaffinch, 16 Black-headed Gull, 2 Kestrel, 4 Meadow Pipit, 2 Skylark, 4 Mallard on the pit top, single Buzzard, Green Woodpecker on the east side, 50+ Fieldfare >NE, and f Peregrine over fields below west side near housing estate (Darren Carnall).

5th March At Langold Lake this afternoon were a pair Goosander, 9 Tufted Duck, 4 Gadwall, 8 Mute Swan, 4 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Wren, 2 Bullfinch, 3 Green Woodpecker & 7 Great Crested Grebe (Alan Bradford). Merlin over Lingodell (Andy Murray).

4th March At NAPT today were 30 Snipe and 2 Jack Snipe (John Gallagher). Brambling in Swinston Hill Wood (Chris Lilley).

27th February At Axle Lane today were 2 m Corn Bunting singing by the wall and in the rape field, also 26 Golden Plover, Green Woodpecker and 21 Skylark (Mick Clay).

25th February A total of 9 Siskin at Kiveton Waters today, plus 20 Tree Sparrow, 70 Fieldfare, 30 Black-headed Gull , 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 7 Lapwing, 6 Reed Bunting, 8 Moorhen, 6 Coot, 2 Mute Swan and 5 Mallard. As well as 6 Yellowhammer, 2 Willow Tit, 20+ Long-tailed Tit and Short-eared Owl for 30 mins. (Darren Carnall).

24th February At Kiveton Waters today were 15 Tree Sparrow, 2 pairs of Buzzard displaying, calling and tumbling, Green Woodpecker, 30+ Fieldfare and 30+ Black-headed Gull (Darren Carnall).

23rd February At Langold Lake this afternoon were 6 Pochard, single female Goosander, 15 Tufted Duck, 4 Great Crested Grebe & 5 Gadwall (Alan Bradford).

21st February In the Swinston Hill Wood area, ringing highlights were 7 Great Tit, 2 Nuthatch, Marsh Tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker (Chris Lilley).

20th February A couple of hours at Kings Wood corner this morning produced 3 Nuthatch, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, 3 Herring Gull, Siskin, several Skylark singing, 2 Sparrowhawk displaying, Marsh Tit and 21 Buzzard (Andy Hirst).

19th February At Roche Abbey today were 9 Teal and 29 Mallard, 5 Marsh Tit, c6 Nuthatch, and 2 Buzzard. From Kings Wood corner were 9 Buzzard (SK58 Birders). At Langold Lake numbers were down slightly, with 8 Gadwall, 5m, 2f Pochard, and 3 Great Crested Grebe (Andy Hirst & Mick Clay). Willow Tit in a Throapham garden (Andy Hirst).

18th February At Langold Lake today were 5 Goosander, 6 Gadwall, 8 Pochard, 2 Teal, 13 Tufted Duck and Water Rail (Mick Clay).

17th February At Axle Lane today were 100 Golden Plover, one nearly taken by Sparrowhawk, also 5 Lapwing and 15 Skylark many in song (Mick Clay).

14th February At the Butterfly House today were 39 Fieldfare, 14 Chaffinch, 10 Robin, 9 Great Tit, 16 Tree Sparrow, 6 House Sparrow and 4 Blackbird. 20 Skylark along Brands Lane. In Brands Lane Wood were 10 Chaffinch, Treecreeper, and 2 Goldcrest. In Swinston Hill Wood were 2 Nuthatch, 3 Robin, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 41 Starling, and 100 Woodpigeon (Chris Lilley).

12th February At Kiveton Woodlands today (Kiveton Pit Top) were 14 Tree Sparrow, 6 Goldfinch,
3 Kestrel, plus f Merlin, 2 Green Woodpecker & 5 Reed Bunting (Darren Carnall). Also here were Kingfisher, 60 Fieldfare, 60 Goldfinch, m Green Woodpecker, m and f Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and 11 Moorhen (Mick Clay).

10th February 4 Teal in the dike by hospice gates at NAPT (Geoff Facer). At Anston Stones Wood today were 19 Blue Tit,18 Great Tit, 3 Coal Tit and 8 Long-tailed Tits. Also 12 Chaffinch, 2 Bullfinch,10 Robin, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Goldcrest, 35 Fieldfare, 10 Blackbird, 10 Redwing, 6 Mistle Thrush, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kestrel and Buzzard (Mick Clay).

6th February At Langold Lake today were 3 Goldcrest, 6 Robin, 40 Canada Geese, 2ad 3imm. Mute Swan, 4 Tufted Duck, 24 Mallard, 60 Coot, 20 Moorhen, 25 Black-headed Gull, 12 Blackbird, 2 Siskin & 6 Carrion Crow (Alan Bradford). From a Langold Garden were 6 Greenfinch, 14 Goldfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Collared Dove, 6 Blackbird, Robin, 10 House Sparrow, 14 Starling, Coal Tit, Great Tit, 2 Dunnock, 2 Chaffinch, Magpie. And in a neighbours orchard were c300 Fieldfare (Pauline Bradford). Along Eastfield Lane were c150 Rook and 100 Jackdaw, 3 Buzzard and 4 Yellowhammer. In Kings Wood were single Woodcock, 4 Buzzard, 6 Nuthatch, 31 Long-tailed Tit, 15 Siskin, 2 Marsh Tit, 6 Goldcrest, and drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker. At Roche Abbey were 38 Teal, 23 Mallard, Little Grebe, 2 Marsh Tit and Buzzard. Around Kings Wood corner were c1500 Woodpigeon and 4 Buzzard (Andy Hirst).

At the Butterfly House today were 12 Tree Sparrow (One retrap), 2 Dunnock, 5 Blue Tit (one retrap), Blackbird (retrap), 3 House Sparrow, Coal Tit and Great Tit plus Mute Swan >W & Heron circling (Chris Lilley).

5th February On First Lane were 112 Lapwing >S, 8 Skylark >W, 8 Great Black-backed Gull and 8 Herring Gull > S, plus 13 Grey Partridge. Along the Chesterfield Canal m Green Woodpecker and Great Spotted Woodpecker. At Axle Lane towards Todwick were 3 Song Thrush, 2 f Bullfinch, 144 Skylark and 45 Grey Partridge (Mick Clay). At Smarson Hills Pond were 20 Blackbird, 3 Mistle Thrush, 2 Song Thrush, Lapwing, 10 Meadow Pipit, 6 Teal, 2 Snipe and Grey Wagtail (John Gallagher). Along Brands Lane a f Merlin again (John Gallagher and Andy Murray). At Woodsetts Road, N. Anston were Kestrel and Buzzard. 4th February At Axle Lane were Buzzard, 100 Skylark and 30 Grey Partridge (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Marsh were Buzzard, Woodcock and 2 Marsh Tit. Over Doles Wood were 4 Crossbill, 10 Tree Sparrow and 140 Yellowhammer. In the field adjacent to Thornberry Animal Sanctuary were 150 Fieldfare (John Gallagher).

3rd February At Thurcroft Marsh were 4 Willow Tit, 4 Goldcrest, 2 Song Thrush, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker and 5 Bullfinch. Roche Abbey held 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Tommy Flockton's Marsh produced Heron, Green Woodpecker, 6 Teal, 9 Grey Partridge, 2 Gadwall, 6 Mallard, 10 Moorhen, 70 Goldfinch, 20 Greenfinch, 2 Mistle Thrush, 50 Fieldfare, 25 Redwing and Grey Wagtail. Along Brands Lane were 17 Golden Plover and f Merlin unsuccessfully hunting Skylark in stubble (John Gallagher).

2nd February At Roche Abbey were 24 Teal, 20 Mallard, 6 Great Tit, Coal Tit and 3 Buzzard over Slade Hills. At Common Road, Anston; a Little Owl by the nest box and Kestrel (Brian Chambers).

30th January Short-eared Owl at dusk at Thurcroft Pit Top, Little Owl at Carr and Tawny Owl calling at the Gypsy Lane end of Roche Abbey (Andy Hirst). In a Langold garden today were Great Spotted Woodpecker, 50+ Fieldfare, 10 Goldfinch, 12 Starling, 2 Robin, 2 Dunnock, 9 Greenfinch, 8 House Sparrow, 2 Collared Dove, 3 Blackbird, 2 Magpie, 2 Woodpigeon, 4 Chaffinch, 3 Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, & Wren (Pauline Bradford).

28th January No sign of the Glaucous Gull at Oldcotes this morning, just 9 Black-headed Gull and c20 Lapwing. At Kings Wood Corner were c4 Nuthatch, 1000+ Woodpigeon, c6 Buzzard, 2 displaying Sparrowhawk & 9 Skylark. At nearby Lingodell were c450 Fieldfare, 2 Siskin, 125 Canada Geese and single Greylag Goose. At the corner of Lingodell and Kings Wood Lane were c15 Tree Sparrow, 12 Chaffinch, 4 Lesser Redpoll, and 4 Reed Bunting. Wildfowl numbers at Langold Lake were well down. the 3 imm. and 2 ad. Mute Swan remained, although just a single pair of Gadwall and Great Crested Grebe. Coot fell to 72, 28 Tufted Duck, 13 Mallard and 9 Moorhen. Although 4m and 1f Pochard, a pair of Goosander plus Water Rail. Carlton Lake held 5 Moorhen, 6 Coot, 6 Mallard, 2 pairs of Goosander- displaying and Heron. Nearby Hodsock revealed several Buzzard, 20+ Pied Wagtail and Chiffchaff feeding around the sewage works (Andy Hirst). At Kiveton Woodlands today were 2 Siskins, c10 Tree Sparrow, 12 Fieldfare, 20 Lesser Redpoll and Short-eared Owl on the east side (Darren Carnall).

27th January 2nd winter Glaucous Gull reported in ploughed field 500m W of Oldcotes on the A634 (BirdGuides).

21st January Kingfisher at Cinderhill, by the Chesterfield Canal. Carlton Lake held a pair of Goosander. At Langold Lake were Kingfisher and another pair of Goosander. NAPT produced Woodcock, 8 Snipe, m Wigeon and 23 Mallard (John Gallagher).

In a Langold garden were Dunnock, 10 Goldfinch, 2 Collared Dove, 8 Fieldfare, 6 Redwing, 3 Blackbird, 16 Greenfinch, 5 House Sparrow, 2 Woodpigeon, 11 Starling, Great Spotted Woodpecker, f Sparrowhawk, Great Tit, 2 Chaffinch, Magpie and 6 Greylag Geese (Pauline Bradford).

10th January At Langold Lake today were 79 Coot, 45 Mallard, 31 Tufted Duck, 5 Pochard, 12 Gadwall, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Mute Swan & a Water Rail. At Hodsock were c30 Pied Wagtail, c25 Meadow Pipit and 15 Linnet. At Netherthorpe 8 Lapwing flew over, with 3 Buzzard at Top Locks (Brian Chambers).

6th January A walk from South Anston to Turnerwood produced 33 Long-tailed Tit, 26 Blue Tit, Marsh Tit,16 Great Tit, 2 Treecreeper, 6 Nuthatch, 30 Chaffinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Little Grebe, 2 Buzzard, 2 Tree Sparrow, Grey Wagtail, 2 Goldcrest and 161 Fieldfare. At Moses Seat, Marsh Tit, f Sparrowhawk and at Anston Grange Farm were 3 Buzzard and Grey Wagtail (Mick Clay). At Kiveton Waters today were Kingfisher, Woodcock, Heron, 2 Kestrel & 2 Snipe (John Gallagher).

17th December At Axle Lane today were 600 Golden Plover, 39 Black-headed Gull and a Common Gull. At Penny Piece a Buzzard (Mick Clay). At Carr, m Merlin flew towards Lingodell (John O'Malley).

14th December Circa 150-200 Fieldfare on Lindrick Golf Course near the 1st tee around 13:00 (Sheila Newsome & Ruth Brown).

Langold Lake produced 35 Siskin, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 35 Goldfinch, Sparrowhawk and 7 (6m, 1f) Pochard (John Gallagher). Also here were c100 Coot, 6 Moorhen, c25 Tufted Duck, 10 Mallard, c50 Canada Geese, c20 Black-headed Gull, Buzzard, 6 Great Tit, 7 Blackbird, 8 Reed Bunting, c20 Gadwall, 6 Mute Swan (2ad, 4 juv.) & Heron. Carlton Lake held c25 Black-headed Gull, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, 10 Coot, 15 Mallard & a Sparrowhawk. At Brown Bailey's were 5 Black-headed Gull, 25 Tufted Duck, 30 Mallard & 10 Coot. 10th December Reed Bunting in a Kiveton Garden (Alan Bateman). At Axle Lane today were 170 Golden Plover, 50 Pink-footed Geese >E, distant skein of 80 Grey Geese >E, and a further 70 distant Grey Geese in a skein >E. At Roche Abbey were 2 Woodcock, 5 Marsh Tit, 6 Bullfinch, 11 Goldcrest, Little Grebe, 12 Teal, 24 Mallard and 7 Nuthatch (John Gallagher).
