31st December At Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) this morning were 8 Reed Bunting, Yellowhammer, 11 Chaffinch, 5 Bullfinch, 3 Greenfinch, 19 Goldfinch, 5 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Grey Wagtail > E, 32 Fieldfare, 7 Redwing, Water Rail, 3 Cormorant, Treecreeper, 16 Long-tailed Tit, Coal Tit, Kestrel and a Snipe (John Williamson). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh there were 7 Mallard, 18 Goldfinch and c13 Fieldfare (Alfie Bloor).

29th December m&f Stonechat and a flock of at least 200 Linnet on the path between Rackford Lane and Lindrick (Farrell Kent).

28th December 60 Pink-footed Goose > over S. Anston (Mick Clay). A m Blackcap in a Woodsetts garden (Gareth Picton).

27th December On a bright and calm morning 5 members attended the socially distanced Christmas walk. Starting at Anston Stones Wood with 3 calling Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Grey Wagtail on the River Ryton. Then onto Lindrick Dale with a Kingfisher feeding by a garden pond, another Grey Wagtail on the River Ryton, plus 2 Mistle Thrush, 2 Song Thrush, Kestrel, 12 Mallard and 6 Little Grebe on a small lake. On the return leg around Harry Croft's, a Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, 2 Raven, 17 Grey Partridge, 8 Bullfinch, Song Thrush and 9 Meadow Pipit (Mick Clay).

25th December Around Letwell were 14 Skylark, 2 Kestrel and 2 Buzzard (Alfie Bloor).

24th December Near Netherthorpe airfield there was a Buzzard, Carrion Crow and a Peregrine over the fields. Along the Chesterfield Canal were 2 Mute Swan and 4 Mallard. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 36 Mallard, 31 Wigeon, 4 Teal, Moorhen, 2 Pied Wagtail, 2 Gadwall and c50 Fieldfare (Alfie Bloor).

19th December At Langold Lake today were Kingfisher, 100 Fieldfare, 40 Linnet, Brambling calling, Woodcock, 2 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel (Alfie Bloor & Mick Clay).

15th December At Roche Abbey were 10 Mallard and 4 Gadwall plus Marsh Tit and 2 Nuthatch. Langold Lake held 5 Mute Swan, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 21 Canada Goose, 2 Greylag Goose, 2 Cormorant, Grey Heron, 31 Tufted Duck, 76 Mallard, f Goldeneye, 19 Coot, 21 Moorhen, Water Rail and 116 Black-headed Gull plus 2 Raven >S, 4 Nuthatch and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. At Carlton Lake were 2 Mute Swan, 43 Greylag Goose, 2 Water Rail and 2 Little Egret. At Brown Bailey's were 27 Tufted Duck, 2 Mallard, 3 Coot and Kingfisher. At Hewett Arms Pond were 12 Mallard, 3 Moorhen and Grey Heron. (Mick Clay).

14th December On the Monday walk at Langold Lake the count included 2 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Greylag Goose, 35 Canada Goose, a Shelduck, which was probably attracted to the muddy fringes as the water level was lowered, 34 Tufted Duck, c300 Black-headed Gull and 6 Common Gull. Away from the water were a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Pied Wagtail, a single Fieldfare & Goldcrest. What appeared to be a winter influx of Chaffinch were everywhere with in excess of 50 counted along with 5 Siskin in the alders (Geoff & Lyn Facer). A Tawny Owl calling during the night on Swinston Hill Road, Dinnington (Alfie Bloor).

12th December Along First Lane, South Anston, a Little Egret >W and along the Chesterfield Canal were Raven and Buzzard (Mick Clay). 30 Starling in a South Anston garden (Den & Jan Jarrold).

11th December At Langold Lake today were Shelduck, m Pochard, 33 Tufted Duck, 2 Great Crested Grebe and close by in a muddy field to the W, 49 Pied Wagtail and 2 Grey Wagtail. In the hedgerows around Honey Hills were 28 Blackbird, 100 Chaffinch, 100 Linnet, 4 Brambling, 6 Bullfinch, 3 Jay, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Woodcock and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

9th December Carlton Lake held a m Pintail, 35 Greylag Goose, 3 Water Rail, Kingfisher, 2 Little Egret, a pair of Goosander, m Gadwall, pair of Teal Jay, 2 Green Woodpecker, 30 Siskin and 10 Lesser Redpoll (John Gallagher). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included an Oystercatcher over Dinnington at 2329 (Alfie Bloor).

8th December At Kiveton Pit Top today were 22 Lesser Redpoll, 6 Bullfinch, 7 Siskin, 2 Reed Bunting and Water Rail calling (Mick Clay).

7th December 2 Raven >N over Langold Lake, plus 72 Fieldfare, 27 Blackbird, 40 Linnet, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, 3 Goldcrest, 2 Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Kingfisher, 3 Jay, 2 and on the lake were 3 Shoveler, 2 Pochard, 27 Tufted Duck and a Teal (Mick Clay).

6th December At Kiveton Pit Top were 19 Lesser Redpoll, 5 Bullfinch, 16 Grey Partridge and 26 Golden Plover in field to S (Mick Clay).

5th December At Langold Lake were 44 Chaffinch, 2 Bullfinch, 4 Yellowhammer, 2 Reed Bunting, 44 Fieldfare, 23 Blackbird, Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher, Treecreeper, Jay, 32 Tufted Duck, single Pochard, 2 Great Crested Grebe and 70 Pink footed Goose >N (Mick Clay). Down First Lane were 3 Grey Partridge, 4 Black-headed Gull, 19 Woodpigeon, 15 Rook, 9 Carrion Crow, 3 Goldfinch, Blackbird, a Lesser Redpoll and 2 Pheasant. In Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Song Thrush, 3 Lesser Redpoll, Reed Bunting, 6 Blackbird, 2 Dunnock, 9 Goldfinch, Buzzard and 4 Yellowhammer (Alfie Bloor). Good number of Wigeon on Tommy Flockton’s Marsh, at least 15 plus 6+ Teal (Brian Chambers).

3rd December Early morning and a Woodcock flushed from Axle Lane garden (Mick Clay).

2nd December A Little Egret flying along the Chesterfield Canal Tommy Flockton's Marsh (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top were Peregrine, 25 Lesser Redpoll, 20 Meadow Pipit, 35 Goldfinch, 150 Linnet, Chiffchaff, 18 Snipe, 3 Jack Snipe and 4 or 5 Stonechat (John Gallagher).

1st December At Hodsock Sewage Works were 41 Pied Wagtail, 2 Grey Wagtail and a Green Sandpiper feeding in the muddy field by the farm entrance. Also 80 Black-headed Gull in fields and on the flooded field near Hodsock Cottage plus Great Spotted Woodpecker and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top were c32 Redwing, 5 Blackbird, Song Thrush, 2 Kestrel and a Lesser Redpoll. Near Carr was a Barn Owl carrying a rodent (Alfie Bloor). Further records from Hodsock included 3 Jay, Peregrine and Chiffchaff (John Gallagher). 24 Skylark at Axle Lane (Den & Jan Jarrold ). At Langold Lake were Shelduck, Goosander and a pair of Shoveler (Kevin Hatley).

30th November Along First Lane were 3 Buzzard, Kestrel, 35 Grey Partridge, 6 Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting and on Harry Croft's pond a pair of Gadwall and 2 Little Grebe (Mick Clay).

29th November Kiveton Pit Top revealed 2 Water Rail showing well and calling in old Severn Trent land, also 34 Lesser Redpoll, 8 Bullfinch, Kestrel, 15 Grey Partridge and 21 Golden Plover in field to S of pit top. At NAPT, a Water Rail calling (Mick Clay).

28th November At Honey Hills (Langold Lake) towards Buckwood Farm, in set aside were 56 Chaffinch and at least 2 Brambling, also 106 Fieldfare, 19 Redwing, 2 Goldcrest, f Sparrowhawk and Buzzard. (Mick Clay). On Langold Lake were m & f Shoveler, 2 Pochard, Shelduck, 27 Tufted Duck and 2 Great Crested Grebe (Mick Clay & Mick Scott).

27th November An Oystercatcher >N over First Lane, plus 2 Buzzard sat in Hedgerow and m Green Woodpecker calling in Smarson Hills Wood. In Harry Croft's Quarry m Kestrel, Woodcock, Golden Plover calling, Raven, 2 Jay, 11 Yellowhammer, 4 Reed Bunting, 15 Linnet, Lesser Redpoll and Grey Wagtail (Mick Clay).

26th November A m Goosander at Langold Lake today (Mick Scott). At Axle Lane today were 166 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 15 Herring Gull. Along First Lane were 16 Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting, 3 Lesser Redpoll, 500 Woodpigeon and on the small pond by Harry Croft's, 5 Gadwall and 3 Little Grebe also 2 Buzzard and a Buzzard over Old Spring Wood (Mick Clay).

25th November A Water Rail on exposed mud at Langold Lake, also here, 25 Chaffinch and single Brambling, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Nuthatch, 27 Blackbird, Kingfisher, Green Woodpecker and m & f Shoveler on top pond (Mick Clay).

23rd November Along First Lane were 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 11 Lapwing >W, 23 Fieldfare, 11 Redwing and single Brambling >S. Also 70 Pink-footed Goose >E over Thorpe Salvin (Mick Clay).

22nd November Over Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 706 Pink-footed Goose >E in 6 skeins, also single Jack Snipe and Snipe, 12 Grey Partridge, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 2 Raven, 3 Song Thrush, 45 Yellowhammer, 100 Rook and in a ploughed field off First Lane a Yellow-legged Gull (Mick Clay & Andy Murray).

21st November In the Harry Croft's Quarry were 13 Grey Partridge, 2 Yellowhammer, 5 Fieldfare >N, f Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, c32 Jackdaw, m & f Great Tit, 2 Blackbird, Song Thrush, 6 Meadow Pipit, Green Woodpecker and Lesser Redpoll. In Anston Stones there was a m & f Bullfinch (Alfie Bloor). At Langold Lake water levels are down by at least 1m due to a leak. Just to the S of the lake, a Woodcock, 2 Grey Wagtail, 3 Nuthatch, 3 Mistle Thrush, 78 Fieldfare, 17 Chaffinch, 8 Lesser Redpoll >S and a pair of Shoveler on the top pond (Mick Clay).

20th November Along First Lane, a m Hen Harrier hunting in and around Smarson Hills Wood, before flying >NE, mobbed by 2 Carrion Crow (Mick Clay).

19th November Along First Lane were 2 Buzzard, one mobbed by 2 Raven, also 4 Yellowhammer, 2 Reed Bunting and 17 Chaffinch (Mick Clay). 2 Stonechat at Harry Croft's Quarry (Paul Tennyson).

18th November Along First Lane were 2 Buzzard, m & f Kestrel, Raven, 2 Great Black-backed Gull >S, 28 Grey Partridge, 17 Skylark, 18 Fieldfare and on small pond by the Chesterfield Canal 32 Mallard and Little Grebe (Mick Clay).

17th November At Axle Lane this morning were 216 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 7 Great Black-backed Gull and 26 Herring Gull (Mick Clay). Records today from the wetland sites included at Roche Abbey a pair of Gadwall. Langold Lake held 66 Mallard, 17 Tufted Duck, 14 Moorhen, 13 Coot, 18 Greylag Goose, 2 Great Crested Grebe, a pair of Shoveler and Kingfisher. At Carlton Lake were a Great Crested Grebe and 11 Greylag Goose. Brown Bailey's revealed a Cormorant overhead, a Mute Swan, 23 Tufted Duck a m Gadwall (Brian Chambers).

16th November Along First Lane today were a Merlin hunting, 258 Pink-footed Goose >E, 2 Brambling >S, 10 Fieldfare and Buzzard (Mick Clay). Early evening along First Lane were 3 Redwing, Buzzard, Raven, 2 Carrion Crow and a Cormorant >SW. A Tawny Owl flew past in Anston Stones (Alfie Bloor).

15th November At Loscar this afternoon were 8 Black-headed Gull, 2 Buzzard, 23 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 3 Yellowhammer, 109 Golden Plover and 4 Fieldfare. At Dinnington Marsh at dusk were 4 Herring Gull >S, 3 Blackbird, 7 Redwing, 33 Fieldfare >SW, Common Gull >S, 4 Long-tailed Tit, Buzzard, m Kestrel, and c35 Pink-footed Goose >NW (Andy Hirst).

14th November At Axle Lane today were 93 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 22 Herring Gull and 3 Golden Plover (Mick Clay). At Kiveton Pit Top this morning were 4 Fieldfare, 7 Bullfinch, 28 Long-tailed Tit, 7 Grey Partridge, Cormorant, 5 Reed Bunting, Willow Tit, Grey Heron, 11 Siskin, 2 Lesser Redpoll, Water Rail (calling from reedbed), 4 Greenfinch and a Kingfisher. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 8 Teal, 2 Wigeon, Pied Wagtail, 25 Mallard and a Moorhen (John Williamson).

13th November At Tommy Flockton's Marsh today were 10 Teal, 8 Wigeon, Jay and Buzzard (Mick Clay). Near Gildingwells by Burrs Lane this evening were 2 Barn Owl, Kestrel, c38 Fieldfare towards Woodsetts, 3 Redwing and Blackbird (Alfie Bloor). A f Peregrine hunting at Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

12th November 7 Raven reported >E over Thurcroft Pit Top (per Mick Clay).

11th November At Langold Lake this morning were 5m and 4f Pochard and 5m and 3f Tufted Duck (Mick Scott). 60 Lesser Black-backed Gull at Axle Lane (Den & Jan Jarrold).

10th November A Little Egret in trees by River Ryton at Brancliffe (Geoff & Lyn Facer). This evening near Gildingwells were Barn Owl, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 2 Blackbird, Yellowhammer and 2 Redwing (Alfie Bloor).

9th November 19 Lesser Black-backed Gull at Axle Lane at 1145 (Den & Jan Jarrold). At Gildingwells were Little Owl, 11 Grey Partridge, 35 Golden Plover, 5 Lapwing and 55 Collared Dove. At Wallingwells a Chiffchaff and Kingfisher. Carlton Lake held a m Shoveler (John Gallagher). Over Axle Lane were 36 Lapwing >W and on First Lane, South Anston, 3 Buzzard and 2 Raven (Mick Clay). Tommy Flockton's Marsh held 2m Wigeon, 21 Mallard and 9 Teal (Brian Chambers).

8th November At Gildingwells were 20-25? Pink-footed Goose >NW in very dense fog. Plus a Chiffchaff at Wallingwells (John Gallagher). In dense fog were 2 Bullfinch by Ledger Lakes, Eastfield Lane plus 3 Fieldfare, 2 Yellowhammer, 4 Blackbird and a Buzzard (Andy Hirst). Down Brands Lane were 800+ Starling feeding in the fields (Alfie Bloor).

7th November At Red Quarry Plantation, near Gildingwells were 45 Linnet, 400 Starling, Jay and m Merlin chasing a Skylark (John Gallagher).

6th November Pink-footed Goose (skein) heard over Axle Lane in dense fog (Mick Clay). This evening around Gildingwells there were Barn Owl. In the surrounding fields were 2 Sparrowhawk, 3 Redwing and a Kestrel (Alfie Bloor).

5th November At Thurcroft Pit Top were 1m & 2juv./ f Stonechat, 2 Bullfinch, 4 Reed Bunting , 32 Linnet and a Buzzard (Mick Clay). Along Brands Lane were 11 Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor).

4th November 2ad & 4imm. (family party) Whooper Swan >NW over Kiveton Pit Top, also 21 Golden Plover plus 31 Long-tailed Tit, 4 Lesser Redpoll, 5 Bullfinch, Brambling, 2 Goldcrest and a f Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay).

2nd November An imm. Stonechat still at Axle Lane today (Brian Chambers). At Kiveton Pit Top were 41 Redwing and 61 Fieldfare >S, 22 Lesser Redpoll,10 Bullfinch, 4 Goldcrest, Buzzard and m Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay).

1st November This morning, a grey and wet NAPT revealed 4 Robin, 4 Blackbird, just 3 Linnet, 18 Meadow Pipit, 12 Black-headed Gull, 2 Lesser Redpoll >S, 2 ad. Herring Gull >S, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 4 Stock Dove, 5 Chaffinch, 23 Starling, Jay, 45 Snipe, 4 Long-tailed Tit, Song Thrush, 3 Bullfinch, Moorhen, 25 Golden Plover >S towards Axle Lane. At Langold Lake were 1imm. and 3ad. Mute Swan, 63 Black-headed Gull, 58 Mallard, 12 Coot, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Greylag Goose, 3 Tufted Duck, 6 Moorhen, Buzzard, 70 Fieldfare >S and a Kestrel. An hour at Kings Wood Corner produced 2 Nuthatch, Marsh Tit and a f Sparrowhawk. Carlton Lake held 8 Black-headed Gull, 2 Moorhen, 2 ad. Mute Swan, 2 Coot and 5 Mallard (Andy Hirst). An imm. Stonechat still at Axle Lane today, plus 80 Golden Plover,117 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 2 Herring Gull (Mick Clay & Jan & Den Jarrold).

27th October Juv. Stonechat at Axle Lane, on the wall near Anston end (Mick Clay). Still present late afternoon, plus 14 Greylag Goose >E. Along Slade Hills between 0700-0800 were 764 Woodpigeon >SW, 11 Fieldfare >S and 3 Fieldfare >E, 4 Goldfinch >S and 6> Goldfinch >SW, 3 Lesser Redpoll >SW and 1 Lesser Redpoll >S, 3 Chaffinch >NE, 1 Chaffinch >SE, 7 Chaffinch >SW and 1 Chaffinch >W, 4 Brambling >SW, 7 Meadow Pipit >S, 18 Black-headed Gull >W, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull >SW, 7 Linnet >S and Linnet 8>SW, 4 Redwing >NE and 1 Redwing >S and a Yellowhammer >SE (Alfie Bloor).

25th October A report of an imm. Osprey over Greenlands at N. Anston today (per Mick Clay). In Anston Stones Wood this morning there were 2 Buzzard and 19 Goldfinch. At Axle Lane were 23 Golden Plover flying around with c20 in the fields, 3 Meadow Pipit, and 53 Black-headed Gull as well as 12 Lesser Black-backed Gull. At Kiveton Community Woodland (Kiveton Pit Top) were 5 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Blackbird, m and f Bullfinch, 3 Cormorant, Kestrel, Snipe, 2 Dunnock, a Chiffchaff singing, Goldcrest, Grey Wagtail, 2 Great Tit, 13 Golden Plover >N and 3 Magpie. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh was a Grey Heron. By the Chesterfield Canal next to Tommy Flockton's Marsh was a Marsh Tit (Alfie Bloor). At Axle Lane were 30 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 150 Golden Plover (Den & Jan Jarrold).

23rd October At Thurcroft Pit Top this morning were 18 Goldcrest, 11 Wren, 74 Fieldfare, 3 Redwing, 6 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Buzzard, Kestrel, 11 Reed Bunting, 3 Stonechat and 55 Long-tailed Tit (John Williamson). At Harry Croft's Quarry were 105 Redwing >S, 16 Blackbird, 3 Song Thrush, 41 Yellowhammer in one flock, m Green Woodpecker, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Bullfinch, 60 Rook, 3 Jay and 2 Raven. At Axle Lane were 300 Golden Plover (Mick Clay).

22nd October This evening in Anston Stones Wood were 2 Jay and a m and 2f Mallard. S of Kiveton Industrial estate, a Peregrine flew low over field hedges. Along the Chesterfield Canal near Turnerwood were 2 Mute Swan, 9m and 6f Mallard, as well as 2 Jay. In a fenced field between Dewidales Wood and Lindrick Golf Course was a m Stonechat (Alfie Bloor). At Axle Lane were 22 Golden Plover and a large movement of Skylark >S (Mick Clay).

21st October At Kiveton Pit Top were 3 Brambling, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 5 Bullfinch, 5 Goldcrest, 60 Redwing, 4 Song Thrush, f/ juv Blackcap, Kingfisher, 9 Grey Partridge, imm. Buzzard, Water Rail calling and 3 Golden Plover in field to S. At Axle Lane were a mix of 400 Fieldfare & Redwing >S, m Stonechat on the wall and m Kestrel (Mick Clay).

20th October A WEBS (Wildfowl & Wetlands) count within the square produced; At Roche Abbey 8 Teal, a pair of Gadwall, Grey Wagtail and calling Water Rail. At Langold Lake were 41 Mallard, pair of Shoveler, 3 Pochard, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 2 calling Water Rail and Grey Wagtail. Carlton Lake held a further Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, Great Crested Grebe, a further calling Water Rail and 26 Blackbird. At Shireoaks were 250 Redwing and 60 Fieldfare by the Hewett Arms (Brian Chambers & Mick Clay). At Axle Lane were 119 Golden Plover (Mick Clay).This evening in Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Jay, 2 Pied Wagtail, Kestrel, 11 Goldfinch, 8 Meadow Pipit, 39 Fieldfare, 2 Blackbird, 3 Linnet, Bullfinch, Redwing, 2 Song Thrush, Buzzard and c130 Pink-footed Goose >NW. At Anston Stones Wood were 2f and a m Mallard in the river, also 20 Redwing and a Buzzard over (Alfie Bloor).

11th October Highlights of the SK58 walk to Roche Abbey included a Brambling over Ledger Lakes, Chiffchaff, 42 Collared Dove by the fishing pond at Ledger Lakes. At Slade Hills were at least 12 Skylark, 2 Common Gull, a large influx of Redwing c400 birds over, superseded by Fieldfare, which came through all day in flocks of 20-60 birds. At Roche Abbey were 4 Jay, 100s of Pheasant and dozens of Red-legged Partridge, Sparrowhawk, several Siskin, 3 Buzzard, m Blackcap, 2 Song Thrush, 6 Long-tailed Tit, 15 Jackdaw, Mallard, 3 Grey Wagtail, and 4 Kestrel (Andy Hirst).

An amazing record of a Manx Shearwater sat in the middle of the road between Dinnington & Woodsetts, picked up by an early morning milkman at around 0200. We believe it was taken into care and to the Butterfly House at Anston, before being taken by the RSPCA in Merseyside. An amazing first for SK58. Around Gildingwells this evening were 2 Barn Owl, 38+ Swift, 18 Swallow and a Buzzard (Alfie Bloor). Here also were counts of 29 Chiffchaff, 5 Whitethroat, 14 Willow Warbler, Blackcap, 5 Yellowhammer, 2 Song Thrush, 100 Swift, 65 Jackdaw, 60 Rook and Hobby. Over Anston Stones Wood, a Buzzard. Over South Anston Hobby >S in the afternoon with Swifts plus 2 Buzzard over (Mick Clay).

27th July At Brown Baileys today were Tufted Duck & 2 juvs, 30 Swift and 20+ Sand Martin nests. Carlton Lake held Little Grebe, 15 Mallard, Kingfisher, 25 Sand Martin, 15 Swift and pair of Great Crested Grebe, each with a juv. on their back. At Langold Lake were 100 Swift, Kingfisher, 3 pair of Great Crested Grebe, one on a nest and 55 Mallard (John Gallagher).

24th July Around the Langold Lake area this morning were Buzzard and Hobby (Mick Scott). A Long-eared Owl at Thurcroft Pit Top today (Dave Jackson).

22nd July In Harry Croft's Quarry today were 20 Goldfinch, 5 Yellowhammer, 6 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, Buzzard, 4 Carrion Crow, 5 Chiffchaff, Green Woodpecker, Song Thrush, 3 Great Tit, 2 Chaffinch, 2 Dunnock, juv. Yellow Wagtail and a Willow Warbler (Alfie Bloor). Plus from here were 11 Yellowhammer, 5 Yellow Wagtail, 22 Chiffchaff, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 2 Little Owl, Oystercatcher >E and Hummingbird Hawk-moth on S boundary (Mick Clay). 17th July At Gildingwells this morning were 5 Swallow, 2 Starling and 6 Woodpigeon. At Letwell were 3 Yellow Wagtail, Reed Bunting, 7 Skylark, Buzzard and 2 Whitethroat. At Long Thwaite Wood were 7 Goldfinch, 2 Blackbird, Marsh Tit, 2 Chaffinch and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. Lingodell were 9 Canada Goose and 2 Greylag Goose. At Kings Wood were 5 Long-tailed Tit, Marsh Tit and 3 Goldfinch. At Roche Abbey were 2 Great Tit, 2 Coal Tit, 3 Blackcap, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Pied Wagtail, an ad. and 2 Juv. Spotted Flycatcher and 6 Mallard (Alfie Bloor). 13th July At Langold Lake this afternoon were 6ad. and 2juv. Mute Swan, 24 Mallard, 1f & 12juv. Tufted Duck, 13ad. & 4juv. Coot, 7ad. & 5juv. Moorhen, 15 Greylag Goose, 6 Great Crested Grebe, 20 House Martin, Black-headed Gull, f Shoveler, Common Tern, Heron and a Green Woodpecker (Andy Hirst). At Langold Lake was a f Tufted Duck with 8 juvs, f Shoveler and a Kingfisher (Mick Clay).

12th July Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Coot over Dinnington at 2335 (Alfie Bloor). In Harry Croft's Quarry today were 17 Whitethroat which included at least 5 juvs, also 2 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 12 Yellowhammer, Yellow Wagtail >S, 2 Siskin >S, Buzzard and Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Mick Clay).

11th July At Dinnington Marsh were Willow Tit, Sparrowhawk and Little Owl in a nestbox with 3+ owlets. Roche Abbey produced Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and 2 juvs, 3 Siskin, 3 Marsh Tit, Tawny Owl, 2ad. and 2juv. Kestrel and 2 Spotted Flycatcher with 3 juvs. At Firbeck Hall were Kingfisher and Siskin (John Gallagher).

3rd July At a windy NAPT were Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included 2 Redshank over Dinnington at 0007 (Alfie Bloor). A Red Kite by the A57 below Axle Lane (Andy Murray).

2nd July During the evening, in the field near Swinston Hill Wood was a Barn Owl quartering. Also a Grey Partridge and c12 Swift (Alfie Bloor).

1st July At Harry Croft's Quarry were Little Owl, 6 Yellowhammer, 8 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Song Thrush and at Axle Lane were 2 Buzzard, 2 Peregrine and 150 Swift (Mick Clay).

30th June At Langold Lake were 3 Great Crested Grebe inc. one on a nest and a large juv. A Grey Heron, 5 Mute Swan and 2 cygnets, a single m Tufted Duck, a Swallow, Grey Wagtail, 5 Pied Wagtail, 2 Song Thrush, 3 Mistle Thrush, Reed Warbler, 5 Blackcap and 10 Chiffchaff (Geoff & Lyn Facer). Along Brands Lane were a Barn Owl and 18 Swift (Alfie Bloor).

29th June At Red Lane Carlton today were 3 Yellow Wagtail and a juv, 4 Yellowhammer, 20 Linnet, 3 Whitethroat with 2 juvs, 18 Skylark, 142 Rook, 36 Jackdaw, Buzzard and a Kestrel. At Owdy Lane were 2 Yellow Wagtail and at Hodsock were 4 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Tree Sparrow, 15 Skylark, 16 House Martin and a Buzzard (Mick Clay).

28th June At NAPT this morning were 8 Blackbird, 6 Meadow Pipit, 9 Wren, 10 Blackcap, Buzzard, 3 Song Thrush, 7 Reed Bunting, Lesser Whitethroat, 13 House Martin, 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Stock Dove, 2 Bullfinch, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler, Jay, 4 House Sparrow, 2 Reed Warbler, 6 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Mallard, 7 Swallow and a m Kestrel. Around Roche Abbey were a m Crossbill, 3 Wren, 4 Chiffchaff, f Grey Wagtail, 4 Blackbird, 8 Mallard, Moorhen and 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Langold Lake revealed 2 Black-headed Gull, 53 Mallard, 8 Coot, 5ad, 2juv. Mute Swan, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 25 Greylag Goose, 4 Tufted Duck, Kingfisher and 3 Moorhen. Nearby Carlton Lake produced a Great Crested Grebe on a nest, 5 Whitethroat, 5 Swift, imm. Heron, 28 House Martin, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 11 Mallard, 2 Sand Martin, and a Yellowhammer (Andy Hirst).

25th June At Langold Lake today were 8 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, Reed Warbler on top pond, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Buzzard and Great Crested Grebe on a nest. Also Butterfly counts included 244 Meadow Brown, 87 Ringlet, 134 Marble White, 4 Red Admiral, Comma, Speckled Wood, 4 Small Skipper and 18 Small White. At Harry Croft's Quarry were Raven and a Buzzard. Butterflies here included 64 Meadow Brown, 32 Ringlet, 7 Marble White, a Dark Green Fritillary, Comma, 10 Small Heath, 10 Small Skipper and 14 Tortoiseshell (Mick Clay). A Red Kite >NW over Dinnington (Alfie Bloor).

24th June At Red Lane, Carlton were 2 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk with food, Kestrel and 4 Sand Martin. At Owdy Lane were Buzzard, 2 Yellow Wagtail, Oystercatcher >S and Marsh Harrier >SW (Mick Clay & Andy Murray).

23rd June An ad. Long-eared Owl at Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) early morning (Alan Bateman). 20th June An Oystercatcher at Tommy Flockton's Marsh this morning (Brian Chambers). At Harry Croft's Quarry today were a Hobby hunting the quarry and 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

19th June Today were 71 Starling at Gildingwells. At Roche Abbey were 5 Mallard, 2 Grey Wagtail, 4 Swallow and a pair of Spotted Flycatcher feeding chicks at the nest (Alfie Bloor).

18th June We've heard that one of our nest boxes had 3 juv Barn Owl in it, but one juv. left the nest too early and was possibly taken by a cat. (per Mick Clay).

16th June Down Brands Lane today were 6 Linnet, 4 Skylark, a m Reed Bunting and 2 Whitethroat. Down Gildingwells Road were 2 Yellowhammer, 4 Woodpigeon, 2 Goldfinch, 149 Starling (no Rosy!), Kestrel and 2 Swallow. At Letwell, a Swift, 4 Linnet, 4 Skylark and 2 Yellow Wagtail. There was also a roosting Barn Owl off Gildingwells Road. This evening down Brands Lane were 9 Skylark, 14 Linnet and a m Reed Bunting (Alfie Bloor).

15th June Down Brands Lane today were 5 Swallow, 2 Yellowhammer, Blackcap and 4 Whitethroat (Alfie Bloor).

10th June In Harry Croft's Quarry today were Raven, Little Owl, Sparrowhawk, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warbler, 3 Song Thrush and 9 Yellowhammer. All the Little Grebe have left the quarry; the last pair left due to disturbance (Mick Clay).

9th June At Hodsock, to the N side of track, near sewage works in a rape field were 2 Corn Bunting, one in a small hedge running S>N, in rape and one flying from there along main hedge, also 3 Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting , 2 Tree Sparrow, 10 Greenfinch, 9 Whitethroat, Yellow Wagtail, Garden Warbler with food near farm on track, 15 Swallow, 44 Swift, 20 Skylark, Grey Partridge, 21 Lapwing in fields by the farm, near sewage works and 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay). 8th June A Hobby over a Woodsetts garden (Gareth Picton).

7th June At Thurcroft Marsh early morning were Garden Warbler, 3 Song Thrush, 6 Chaffinch, 6 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 7 Wren, 3 Blackbird, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Bullfinch, 4 Blackcap, Moorhen and a Jay. At Thurcroft Pit Top were 8 Skylark, 13 Whitethroat, 14 Reed Bunting, 6 Reed Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Yellowhammer, 2 Stock Dove, 4 Mallard, 5 Willow Warbler, 9 Linnet, 2 Meadow Pipit and 4 Bullfinch. Around Roche Abbey were 4 Swallow, 8 Blackcap, 3 Song Thrush, 9 Wren, 6 Blackbird, 6 Chaffinch, 14 Mallard, Moorhen, Heron, a pair of Gadwall and 5 House Martin. From Thornbury Hill were Cormorant, 2 Skylark and a Swift. Unfortunately the bread wielding hordes made it impossible to count the wildfowl at Langold Lake except for the following; 6ad. and 2 juv. Mute Swan, 3 Great Crested Grebe and a nest plus 12 Greylag Goose (Andy Hirst). Plus 15 Swift over Langold Pit Top, Kestrel and Garden Warbler on old pit site (Mick Scott).

6th June Down Brands Lane this morning, a m Reed Bunting and 3 Skylark. Along Gildingwells Road near Letwell were 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Linnet, Whitethroat, 4 Swift and 2 Swallow. In Letwell were 4 House Martin. From Lingodell sheep field was a mixed flock of 12 House Martin and 9 Swallow. Along Kings Wood Lane were Blue Tit, 3 Great Tit and 2 Marsh Tit. Over Stubbings Wood were 2 Buzzard. At Roche Abbey were Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Marsh Tit, 4 Chiffchaff including 2 adults feeding a fledgling, m &f Gadwall, 4 Mallard, Grey Heron, 6 Long-tailed Tit, Moorhen, 4 Mistle Thrush, Swift, 7 House Martin and 5 Swallow (Alfie Bloor).

3rd June 2 Rose-ringed Parakeet >E over a Kiveton house (Alan Bateman). Down Brands Lane today, a Whitethroat, m Reed Bunting, Lesser Black-backed Gull >NW, Black-headed Gull >S, 2 Linnet, 4 Goldfinch, 2 Carrion Crow and 4 Skylark. Over the fields near the Butterfly House were 50+ Swift and 6 Swallow (Alfie Bloor).

2nd June At Plantation Court, Dinnington this morning were 10+ Swift hawking insects. At Dinnington Pit Top were 2 Goldcrest, Chiffchaff, Greenfinch, Swallow, 2 Whitethroat, 6 Meadow Pipit, 2 Linnet and a Blackcap (John Williamson). This evening down Brands Lane were 3 Grey Partridge, Kestrel, 3 Skylark, 4 Swift flying and 2 Carrion Crow (Alfie Bloor).

1st June At Langold Lake today were ad. Mute Swan and 2 juv's, 5 Tufted Duck, 3ad. and a juv. Great Crested Grebe plus a Kingfisher (John Gallagher).

31st May Over a Woodsetts garden in a few hours were 5 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and a Peregrine over village for ages (Gareth Picton).

At Roche Abbey were 11 Blackcap, 7 Wren, 8 Goldcrest, 8 Robin, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Nuthatch, 5 Whitethroat, Grey Wagtail, 8 Mallard inc. 5 juv's, Buzzard, 2 Black-headed Gull, 3 Song Thrush and a f Bullfinch. At Hodsock were 31 Swift, ad. and 3 juv Lapwing, Oystercatcher, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 5 Whitethroat, 12 Greylag Goose, 6 Tree Sparrow, 3 Blackcap and 4 Linnet. At Hardwick Ashes were 4 Buzzard, 3 Skylark, 2 Yellow Wagtail, Jay, 3 Yellowhammer and a Great Spotted Woodpecker (Andy Hirst). In Harry Croft's Quarry later that morning were 11 Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler, 5 Yellowhammer, Yellow Wagtail and a Little Owl (Mick Clay). Plus 8 Whitethroat, 2 Song Thrush, 7 Blackbird, 6 Stock Dove, 4 Dunnock, 2 Wren, Willow Warbler, Moorhen, Reed Bunting and a Pied Wagtail. At Kiveton Pit Top (Community Woodland) were 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Swift, 3 House Martin, 2 Willow Warbler, 4 Reed Bunting, 2 Greenfinch, Willow Tit, 2 Blackcap, Chiffchaff, 5 Linnet, 2 Whitethroat and 2 Magpie (Alfie Bloor). Earlier that morning were a Cuckoo, a pair of Kestrel and 4 Reed Warbler (John Williamson).

25th May A Red Kite >S over South Anston this morning (Mick Clay). At Long Thwaite Wood were 2 Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Hodsock Flash, which has now dried up produced 2 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Oystercatcher and 10 Lapwing with juv's (John Gallagher). 9 Buzzard over Thornbury Hill, 4 Buzzard over Kings Wood and 3 Buzzard over Sandbeck (Mick Clay & Andy Murray). Also, a Red Kite >S over South Anston (possibly seen 3 times that day) (Mick Clay). Along Brands Lane were 3 Skylark and a Yellowhammer. In the fields north of Firbeck were 15 Swallow, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 3 Skylark. At Breck Lane, Dinnington were 19 Swift screaming (Alfie Bloor).

Confirmed breeding of Kingfisher at Langold Lake, plus the Common Tern still present (Mick Scott). On the footpath from Quinn's to Tommy Flockton's Marsh along the Chesterfield Canal was a Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Blackcap and Chiffchaff .

At Tommy Flockton's Marsh, a Lesser Whitethroat by Hard Lane (Geoff & Lyn Facer). At Hodsock today were 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Yellow Wagtail, c12 House Martin and c10 Swallow. 10th April Along Axle Lane, a Yellow Wagtail >N (Mick Clay), In Harry Croft's Quarry were 6 Little Grebe inc. two nest building, Whitethroat, 3 House Martin >N. At Grange Farm, a Yellow Wagtail, m Green Woodpecker and 4 Swallow. At Lindrick Golf Courses manicured greens were 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcap, Song Thrush, Kestrel and Buzzard. Over Anston Stones Wood were 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay). Around Letwell and Langold today were 3 Blackcap, 4 Lapwing, 2 Yellowhammer, Kestrel, Willow Warbler and 2 Chiffchaff (Alfie Bloor). Later that day, a Kestrel, m Wheatear and 3 Linnet at Axle Lane. Blackcap singing in Windmill Hill Wood and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull >N over South Anston (Geoff & Lyn Facer). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh, a Little Egret and along the Chesterfield Canal from Tommy Flockton's Marsh to South Anston were 17 Chiffchaff, 10 Blackcap and Marsh Tit. Just off the Chesterfield Canal in a hedge, a further m Common Redstart showing well and in same small hedge, a Little Owl and Marsh Tit. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Little Owl, Swallow and Little Ringed Plover, plus Red Kite high over.. At Kiveton Pit Top (Community Woodland) this morning were 40+ Linnet, m Kestrel, 6 Bullfinch, 9 Yellowhammer, 15 Chiffchaff, m Sparrowhawk and 3 Willow Warbler (John Williamson).

6th April Early morning in Harry Croft's Quarry revealed Little Ringed Plover before >N calling, Raven, Willow Warbler, 2 Little Owl and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay). Along Brands Lane were 33 Linnet, 14 Woodpigeon, 18 Yellowhammer, 9 Skylark, 6 Grey Partridge and a Buzzard (Alfie Bloor). A House Martin reported (per Den Jarrold).

5th April Around the Letwell/ Langold area today were 9 Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Buzzard, 5 Skylark, Sparrowhawk ad 6 Yellowhammer. On the Chesterfield Canal from Tommy Flockton's Marsh to to South Anston were 14 Chiffchaff, 21 Fieldfare >N, Marsh Tit and 5 Buzzard. Over Loscar Wood were 4 Buzzard and over Anston Stones Wood were 2 Buzzard. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 3 Buzzard, 2 Raven, 49 Jackdaw At Axle Lane late afternoon were 52 Golden Plover >S (Mick Clay). Also at Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 8 Skylark, 6 Mallard, 8 Yellowhammer, Cormorant >S, 4 Grey Partridge, 9 Goldfinch, 4 Meadow Pipit, 6 Stock Dove, c40 Jackdaw, 19 Linnet, Little Owl, 3 Buzzard, 2 Raven, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Coot, 2 Greylag Goose, Heron >S and a m Kestrel. At Firbeck Hall were 2 Nuthatch, 4 Buzzard, 8 Greylag Goose, Mute Swan, 8 Moorhen, 3 Coot, 12 Mallard and 35 Canada Goose. From Kings Wood corner were 7 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel. Hodsock revealed 8 Lapwing, c50 Linnet, 3 Buzzard, 4 Skylark, 3 Yellowhammer, 4 Meadow Pipit and a f Kestrel. On Carlton Lake were 28 Greylag Goose, 2 Coot, a pair of Gadwall and a Great Crested Grebe. Nearby Buckwood Farm produced 8 Buzzard and 3 Skylark with Brown Bailey's pond holding 5 Coot, 5 Mallard, 18 Tufted Duck and a pair of Great Crested Grebe (Andy Hirst). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh later were Water Rail & Little Egret (Mick Clay).

22nd March At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 2 Little Egret, 23 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 4 Mallard, 2 Buzzard, 4 Moorhen and 8 Pied Wagtail (Geoff & Lyn Facer). Along Brands Lane and nearby woodlands today were 3 Buzzard, Kestrel, Reed Bunting, 17 Yellowhammer and 12 Skylark. At Gildingwells were Buzzard & Chiffchaff. Roche Abbey produced 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Buzzard and a Kestrel (Alfie Bloor).

21st March >N over Axle Lane were 46 Whooper Swan. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 22 Wigeon and 7 Teal. >N over the Chesterfield Canal by Station pub, a Red Kite, 6 Chiffchaff and calling Tawny Owl by the Chesterfield Canal. At Smarsons Hill Wood were 4 Buzzard and Blackcap singing. Over Old Spring Wood were 3 Buzzard plus 3 more Buzzard over Anston Stones Wood (Mick Clay).

20th March At Axle lane just a single Wheatear. A t Smarsons Hill were 2 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel displaying. At Hawks Wood were 4 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel displaying. By Old Spring Wood, a Buzzard. At Anston Stones Wood were 2 more Buzzard and over Lindrick Dale were 2 Buzzard. Harry Croft's Quarry produced 8 Golden Plover >N, Buzzard and 2 Raven (Mick Clay). Today down Brands Lane and in nearby woods were 34 Yellowhammer, 6 Skylark and 2 Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor).

At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 22 Wigeon and 8 Teal. Along the Chesterfield Canal towards South Anston were 5 Chiffchaff. At the end of First Lane near the Chesterfield Canal, a m Stonechat. In Harry Croft's Quarry 2 Raven, 3 Buzzard and Little Owl calling (Mick Clay). Plus 18 Meadow Pipit, 3 Pied Wagtail, 36 Linnet and Little Grebe as well as 5 Chiffchaff in Anston Stones Wood (Alfie Bloor).

Along Brands Lane today were 23 Skylark, 5 Reed Bunting, 49 Yellowhammer, Buzzard, 18 Linnet and 2 Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor). A trip around the SK58 wetlands; At Roche Abbey were 7 Mallard and 6 Teal. Langold Lake held 7 Mute Swan, 25 Mallard, 9 Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant and 11 Moorhen. At Carlton Lake were 2 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Mute Swan and 21 Greylag Goose. Brown Bailey's revealed 27 Tufted Duck, 9 Coot, 12 Canada Goose and 2 Greylag Goose. At the end of First Lane by the Chesterfield Canal were Tawny Owl calling, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Buzzard and m Kestrel. In Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Raven, 54 Jackdaw, 3 Buzzard, m Kestrel, Little Owl calling, 21 Stock Dove and 21 Meadow Pipit (Mick Clay).

21st January At Axle Lane a f Peregrine hunting, Buzzard, 200 Fieldfare, 150 Skylark, 150 Starling and a single Golden Plover (Mick Clay).

18th January Early morning at Thurcroft Pit Top produced brief views of Long-eared Owl, 3 Woodcock, 2 Kestrel, Buzzard & Grey Heron (Chris Tyler). Later that day at Thurcroft Pit Top were 3 Barn Owl (John Gallagher).

13th January Along First Lane were 4 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

12th January A walk from Shireoaks to Hawks Wood produced 12 Robin, 12 Long-tailed Tit, 25 Blackbird, 10 Blue Tit, 2 Song Thrush, 4 Cormorant, 3 Bullfinch, 2 Nuthatch, 7 Mallard, Heron, a pair of Mute Swan, 3 Moorhen, 12 Pied Wagtail, 2 Grey Wagtail, f Kestrel, 2 Marsh Tit, 18 House Sparrow and a Sparrowhawk. Hawks Wood was very quiet indeed producing a single tit flock consisting of 8 Long-tailed Tit, 4 Blue Tit and 2 Coal Tit, Other birds includes just Song Thrush, 2 Blackbird, Buzzard, & a Great Spotted Woodpecker (Andy Hirst).At Axle Lane were 400 Fieldfare and 200 Starling feeding together (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top were Long-eared Owl, 3 Barn Owl (one possibly dark variant, continental type) (John Gallagher).

11th January At Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 3 Grey Partridge, Sparrowhawk, 4 Stock Dove, Buzzard & Kestrel. At Dinnington Marsh were 53 Pink-footed Goose >NW, 3 Willow Tit, Woodcock, 16 Magpie, 2 Kestrel, 3 Greylag Goose, Buzzard & 6 Cormorant (Andy Hirst).

9th January In Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were c30 Meadow Pipit, 8 Stock Dove & Kestrel. At Axle Lane were 85 Fieldfare and c45 Skylark (Alfie Bloor). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 24 Wigeon and 3 Gadwall (Mick Clay).

8th January At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 2 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, Barn Owl and Long-eared Owl. At times both owls were hunting were close by (Mick Clay & Brian Chambers).

6th January At Axle Lane today were 3 Buzzard feeding on worms in the stubble field and 200 Fieldfare (Mick Clay).

5th January At Tommy Flockton's Marsh this morning were 12 Teal, 4 Moorhen, 24 Mallard, Greylag Goose, 31 Wigeon, 2m, 1f Gadwall, 10 Rook, 3 Herring Gull, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 18 Black-headed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull >S, 3 Common Gull >S and Cormorant >S. At NAPT were 8 Blackbird, 2 Bullfinch, 27 Black-headed Gull, 7 Cormorant >SW, 6 Mallard, 4 Herring Gull >S, 3 Great Black-backed Gull >S, Common Gull >S, 2 Grey Wagtail, 6 Meadow Pipit, 3 Stock Dove, 20 Snipe and a Jack Snipe. Roche Abbey held Water Rail, 2 Jay, Buzzard, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 12 Siskin & Raven. At Langold Lake were 73 Canada Goose, 24 Coot, 47 Mallard, 8 Tufted Duck, 13 Pochard, a pair of Goosander, Great Crested Grebe, 6 Mute Swan, 6 Moorhen, 18 Long-tailed Tit, 75 Black-headed Gull, Common Gull and 4 Siskin. Finally at dusk at Thurcroft Pit Top were Heron, single Barn Owl, 2 Grey Partridge & Snipe (Andy Hirst). Down Brands Lane today were 15 Reed Bunting, 80 Yellowhammer, 11 Lesser Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 6 Grey Partridge, 160 Linnet, 73 Skylark and 21 Meadow Pipit (Alfie Bloor). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh later in the day were 28 Wigeon and 20 Redwing. At Kiveton Pit Top 300 Pink-footed Goose >W, also Water Rail calling and 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

4th January A Red Kite drifted low >E over Laughton Common at 0830 (John Gallagher). At Harry Croft's Quarry today were Little Owl. Brown Bailey's held 16 Mallard, 21 Tufted Duck, Kingfisher & f Sparrowhawk. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 25 Fieldfare, 12 Redwing, m Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 25 Wigeon, 19 Mallard, Grey Wagtail, m Sparrowhawk & 15 Goldfinch (Brian Chambers). At Hodsock today were Hodsock 35 Grey Partridge. Thurcroft Pit Top produced 5 Grey Partridge, Long-eared Owl, Barn Owl and 3 Kestrel (John Gallagher & John Williamson). Hunting over fields at Gildingwells were Peregrine and at Langold Lake a Little Grebe (Mick Clay).

31st December Circa 1000 Pink-footed Geese >W over South Anston and the Chesterfield Canal between 0900 and 1100 in 9 skeins and at Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 22 Wigeon, m Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, a Teal and 29 Redwing. Along First Lane were Raven & 4 Buzzard (Mick Clay). (Mick Clay).

28th December At Langold Lake today were 12 Tufted Duck & 5 Pochard (Mick Scott).

27th December At in Harry Crofts Quarry today were 2 Raven, Jack Snipe, 100 Fieldfare >S and a Grey Wagtail (Mick Clay).

22nd December This morning around Langold Lake were 9 Pochard, 8 Tufted Duck, 30 Mallard flying in. Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Green Woodpecker calling (Mick Scott). At Axle Lane were 15 Skylark, 30 Fieldfare, 40 Linnet and 20 Yellowhammer (Geoff & Lyn Facer).

21st December c200 Pink-footed Goose >SW over South Anston (Geoff & Lyn Facer). Off Oldcotes Road by Long Thwaite Wood were 1000 Starling and 2 Peregrine plus 2 skeins of 75 & 200 Pink-footed Goose >W (John Gallagher).

15th December At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 70 Pink-footed Goose >W, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 16 Fieldfare and a Song Thrush (Mick Clay).

13th December Birds at Langold Lake today included 40-50 Goldfinch and a Little Grebe (Mick Scott).

11th December At Axle Lane today wereYellow-legged Gull with 20 Black-headed Gull and 2 Great Black-backed Gull >S plus 40 Skylark (Mick Clay).

10th December A pair of Shoveler still present at Langold Lake (Mick Scott).

9th December Five members took part in the Monday walk at Langold Lake. Among species recorded were, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 57 Canada Goose, 7 Pochard, 11 Tufted Duck, 3 Buzzard, 16 Moorhen, Kingfisher, 12 Robin, 34 Blackbird, 2 Fieldfare, Song Thrush, 10 Long-tailed Tit and a Nuthatch (Geoff & Lyn Facer).

8th December At Langold Lake today were Kingfisher, Little Grebe and 4m Pochard on main lake, m&f Shoveler on small pond and close by were 2 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and 28 Chaffinch (Mick Clay). Over Brookhouse were 4 Shelduck >SW. At Roche Abbey were 2 Marsh Tit and single Marsh Tit at Stone (John Gallagher & John Williamson).

7th December A walk from Laughten-en-le-Morthen to Firbeck and return produced- Along Eastfield Lane were 38 Redwing, 26 Herring Gull >W, 6 Robin, 8 Blackbird, 2 Mallard, Cormorant, 3 Buzzard, 2 Stock Dove, 59 Golden Plover, 11 Greylag Goose >E, 3 Siskin and 21 Red-legged Partridge. Around Roche Abbey were Jay, 6 Chaffinch, 3 Nuthatch, a pair of Grey Wagtail, 3 Mallard, 3 Teal, Little Grebe, 21 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Herring Gull, Kestrel, Buzzard and a Heron. Around Stubbings Wood were 5 Yellowhammer, 6 Long-tailed Tit, 6 Skylark, c300 Linnet in old rape/ set aside, 14 Black-headed Gull and 2 Buzzard. At Lingodell were 23 Starling and 700 Woodpigeon (Andy Hirst).

6th December A Brambling and Tawny Owl in Long Thwaite Wood (John Williamson). At Langold Lake today were a pair of Shoveler still and 3 Brambling in the old pit yard (Mick Scott).
