27th September Great White Egret at Langold Lake- appeared to roost (Alec Bonser). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Redwing at 2203 (Alfie Bloor).

26th September 11 Whooper Swan >S over Woodsetts at 1606, following an earlier flock of 5, which were probably also Whooper Swan (Gareth Picton). At Axle Lane today were a Wheatear and 23 Golden Plover (Mick Clay).

24th September At Axle Lane were 70 Meadow Pipit >S, 132 Skylark >S and 18 Golden Plover (Mick Clay).

23rd September At Kiveton Pit Top today were 3 Song Thrush, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Lesser Redpoll and 2 Siskin >S (Mick Clay).

22nd September This morning down Brands Lane were 7 Meadow Pipit, 2 Reed Bunting, Dunnock, 3 Chiffchaff, 14 Grey Partridge and 6 Linnet. This evening in Harry Croft's Quarry there were 4 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Dunnock, 4 Yellowhammer, Blackbird, Chaffinch, 13 Jackdaw, Jay, Raven, Buzzard, Kestrel, Swallow >W and a Pied Wagtail >W (Alfie Bloor).

21st September At Axle Lane were 59 Meadow Pipit >S, 43 Skylark >S, 2 Reed Bunting and juv. Corn Bunting feeding in stubble by the wall at the Anston end, also Chiffchaff, Buzzard and Snipe >W (Mick Clay).

20th September At Hodsock today were Peregrine, 2 Lesser Redpoll and 3 Yellow Wagtail (John Gallagher & Andy Murray). At Axle Lane today were Peregrine hunting and 29 Golden Plover. At NAPT were 3 Buzzard, 5 Chiffchaff, 5 Bullfinch and Blackcap (Mick Clay). A m Stonechat at Brands Lane today (Alfie Bloor).

19th September At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 3 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and 6 Stonechat altogether. At Brampton Common were 2 Buzzard and Peregrine hunting. In the afternoon at Axle were Buzzard and Peregrine hunting (Mick Clay). At Axle Lane were 2m Wheatear plus 75 Mallard (Brian Chambers).

18th September Down Brands Lane this morning were c100 Linnet, m Stonechat, a imm. Hobby chasing Meadow Pipits, 11 Meadow Pipit, Dunnock, Wren, Goldfinch and 2 Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor). Along the Chesterfield Canal were 11 Mallard, a pair of Mute Swan and a Buzzard (Jan & Den Jarrold).

17th September At Axle Lane today were 3 Yellow Wagtail, 30 Skylark and 34 Meadow Pipit all >S, also 354 Lesser Black-backed Gull (Mick Clay), plus 100 Black-headed Gull (Jan & Den Jarrold). In the afternoon were 3 Skylark, 12 Linnet, c40 Woodpigeon and 7 Carrion Crow (Alfie Bloor).

15th September Juv. Corn Bunting still present at Axle Lane (Mick Clay). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Golden Plover at 0100 (Alfie Bloor).

14th September Juv. Corn Bunting still present at Axle Lane, plus hunting Peregrine & imm. Hobby, juv. Wheatear and 129 Meadow Pipit >S (Mick Clay). A Little Egret at Kiveton Waters (Kiveton Pit Top) (Alan Bateman).

13th September A m Stonechat at Hodsock (John Gallagher). 17 Meadow Pipit >S at Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

12th September At Axle Lane this morning were 9 Skylark, 4 Linnet, 37 Lesser Black-Backed Gull, Whitethroat, 15 Goldfinch, Nuthatch, 8 Grey Partridge and a Grey Heron (John Williamson).

11th September Down Brands Lane today there were c90 Linnet, 9 Meadow Pipit, 2 Yellowhammer, 3 Reed Bunting, and 18 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S. Along the Chesterfield Canal near Turnerwood, in the evening there were 2 Mute Swan, juv. and ad. Moorhen and a Kingfisher. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh Moorhen and a Chiffchaff (Alfie Bloor). At Axle Lane a juv. Corn Bunting feeding in stubble field with 2 Linnet (Mick Clay). At Langold Lake were Kingfisher, Kestrel, Heron & Grey Wagtail (Mick Scott). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included an Oystercatcher at 0530 (Alfie Bloor).

10th September down Brands Lane there were c90 Linnet, 9 Meadow Pipit, 2 Yellowhammer, 3 Reed Bunting, and 18 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S. Down Chesterfield canal near Turnerwood in the evening there were 2 Mute Swan, juv and ad Moorhen and a Kingfisher. At Tommy Flockton's marsh there was a Moorhen and a Chiffchaff (Alfie Bloor).

8th September At Kiveton Pit Top were 13 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap, 8 Bullfinch, plus Siskin and Swift >S. At Axle m& f Peregrine sat in the field, 2 Kestrel as well as 21 Meadow Pipit, Tree Pipit and 2 Grey Wagtail >S (Mick Clay). An amazing record of a Manx Shearwater sat in the middle of the road between Dinnington & Woodsetts, picked up by an early morning milkman at around 0200. We believe it was taken into care and to the Butterfly House at Anston, before being taken by the RSPCA in Merseyside. An amazing first for SK58. Tree Pipit >S and steady passage of Meadow Pipit (Mick Clay). 3 Buzzard over Langold Lake (Jan & Den Jarrold). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Golden Plover at 0000, with another at 0100 (Alfie Bloor).

7th September At Axle Lane were 28 Meadow Pipit, 4 Swallow >S, 9 Golden Plover and juv. Hobby. At First Lane were 16 Grey Partridge and a Buzzard (Mick Clay).

6th September At Kiveton Pit Top today were 13 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whitethroat, 6 Bullfinch, 2 Siskin and 2 Swift >S. At Axle juv. Hobby and 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay). A Swift >NW over Dinnington (Alfie Bloor).

5th September At Langold Pit Top were 3 Siskin, Peregrine and Lesser Whitethroat (John Gallagher). A Yellow-legged Gull at Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

4th September At Axle Lane a Yellow Legged Gull (Alfie Bloor), with 100 Lesser Black-backed Gull. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 4 Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, Siskin, Swift and 48 House Martin >S, Snipe, 2 Buzzard and 2 Raven (Alfie Bloor, John Gallagher & Mick Clay).

3rd September At Axle Lane were 300 Lesser Black-backed Gull and at Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Whitethroat, 6 Chiffchaff, 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Snipe, Buzzard, 2 Little Owl and 2 Raven. At Thurcroft Pit Top late evening were Buzzard, m Kestrel, Peregrine and 29 Swallow >S and in Carr village, a Barn Owl hunting over the horse paddocks, plus Tawny Owl calling (Alfie Bloor, John Gallagher & Mick Clay).

2nd September Down Brands Lane there were c230 Linnet, 4 Reed Bunting, 2 Chaffinch and 43 Woodpigeon (Alfie Bloor). In Harry Croft's Quarry today were 7 Whitethroat, 8 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, Blackcap, 13 Yellowhammer, Tree Pipit feeding by ponds, 12 Meadow Pipit and 4 Swift >S, 13 Stock Dove, 3 Snipe, Buzzard plus imm, 2 Raven and 5 Buzzard over Old Spring Wood (Mick Clay).

1st September At Axle Lane were 2 Buzzard (Mick Clay). Down Brands Lane were 200+ Linnet and a Kestrel. At Letwell there were 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull and a Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor).

31st August At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 2 Buzzard, 5 Chiffchaff, 5 Whitethroat, 25 Swallow, 28 Swift, single Sand Martin and 3 Siskin >S. In field close by were 400 Lesser Black-backed Gull. At Axle were 3 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel (Mick Clay). This morning down Brands Lane there were 76 Linnet, 16 Swallow, 5 Carrion Crow, Whitethroat, 4 Swift, Chiffchaff, 2 Dunnock, 4 Reed Bunting, 23 Goldfinch, Jay, Blackcap, 2 Yellowhammer, Wren and a Robin (Alfie Bloor). A Tree Pipit and several Siskin >SE over a Woodsetts garden (Gareth Picton). Imm Hobby at Brancliffe Grange today plus Peregrine >E over Woodsetts (Barry Cartwright).

30th August At Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 4 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Little Owl, 4 Buzzard including a juv. and Raven. At Hawks Wood were 2 Buzzard, at Lindrick Dale 2 more Buzzard over Long Thwaite wood and 5 Buzzard at a copse nearby (Little Thwaite Wood?) (Mick Clay). f Marsh Harrier around Harry Croft's Quarry, plus 2 Shelduck from Kings Wood Corner and Red Kite feeding in fields by Stubbings Wood (Andy Murray).

28th August At Thurcroft Pit Top today was a Short-eared Owl, 50 Goldfinch, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, f Sparrowhawk and Peregrine (John Gallagher).

18th August This morning down Brands Lane there were 67 Linnet, Buzzard, a Swift, 22 Woodpigeon, 5 Goldfinch, 3 Chiffchaff and 2 Meadow Pipit (Alfie Bloor). f Peregrine at Axle Lane again this afternoon (Mick Clay).

16th August This morning down Brands Lane were 120+ Linnet, 3 Yellowhammer, 12 House Sparrow and a Swallow (Alfie Bloor).

15th August Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Common Sandpiper over Dinnington at 0350 (Alfie Bloor). Early morning in Harry Croft's Quarry yielded a Buzzard, a f Marsh Harrier low >S, which came back, 15 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackbird, 150 Goldfinch, 12 Woodpigeon, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 4 Stock Dove, 4 Carrion Crow, 20 Jackdaw, c15 Linnet, 4 Rook, Kestrel, imm. f Sparrowhawk, 4 Wren, Blackcap, 6 Yellowhammer, 7 Whitethroat, Grey Heron >E, 5 Willow Warbler, Song Thrush, 74 House Martin, Green Sandpiper >S and 2 Tree Pipit. At Hodsock were 4 juv. Buzzard, 9 House Martin, 7 Stock Dove, 18 Pied Wagtail (mostly imm's), 54 Linnet, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 6 Greenfinch, 6 Rook, 4 Yellow Wagtail, Heron, Lapwing and a Common Tern >W (Andy Hirst). Early morning at Kiveton Pit Top were 14 Chiffchaff, 6 Willow Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 5 Bullfinch, 17 Long-tailed Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Buzzard (Mick Clay).

14th August A Red Kite with 7 Buzzard to the E of Dinnington plus a Common Tern at Ledger Lakes. In Harry Croft's Quarry were 90+ Goldfinch, 5 Chiffchaff a Yellow Wagtail and 3 Linnet. Around Gildingwells was a Buzzard and 4 Kestrel (Alfie Bloor).

13th August A Red Kite at Todwick Road, Dinnington (Paul Bloor).

12th August A juv. Wheatear by the hole in the wall at Axle Lane (Mick Clay). A Marsh Harrier (sex/ age unknown) at Hodsock (Alfie Bloor).

11th August A juv. Wheatear at Axle Lane today (Mick Clay). 3 Shelduck >NE over Woodsetts (Andy Hirst).

10th August A Curlew >S over Axle Lane and a Curlew >NE over Harry Croft's Quarry plus 4 Willow Warbler, 13 Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Whitethroat. Most of the warblers in W hedgerow. Plus 4 Yellowhammer one with food, Buzzard with juv and 2 Raven (Mick Clay). A Spotted Flycatcher taking butterflies at Thwaite House Farm (John Williamson).

9th August A f Wheatear at Axle Lane (Michael Gray). 2 Golden Plover over Harry Croft's Quarry (Andy Murray) and another Golden Plover over South Anston (Mick Clay). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Tree Pipit over Dinnington at 0025 (Alfie Bloor). On the Woodsetts to Wallingwells footpath were 2 Buzzard and 2 juv's, Little Owl and Tawny Owl calling, Kestrel, 2 ad. & 10 juv. Grey Partridge, 3 Bullfinch and 2 Sand Martin (Mick Clay).

8th August A Corn Bunting sat in a dead tree by footpath at Harry Croft's Quarry. Plus 32 Willow Warbler, 12 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 7 Whitethroat. Most of the warblers in W hedgerow. Corn Bunting, 6 Yellowhammer, 14 Long-tailed Tit, 2 juv. Buzzard, 2 Raven, m & f Peregrine and a late Marbled White butterfly (Mick Clay).

7th August In Harry Croft's Quarry were 16 Willow Warbler, 18 Chiffchaff, 11 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, Lesser Whitethroat, juv. Redstart, 4 Yellowhammer, Corn Bunting, Raven and Buzzard (Mick Clay). A Red Kite plucking between Gildingwells and Wallingwells (Alfie Bloor).

6th August This morning down Brands Lane were Yellow Wagtail and 12 Linnet. Off Swinston Hill Road, Dinnington were 40+ House Sparrow. Near the Butterfly House were 23 Black-headed Gull, 3 Herring Gull and 13 Lesser Black-backed Gull. In Harry Croft's Quarry were Yellow Wagtail, Tree Pipit over, Skylark, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 2 Yellowhammer, Green Woodpecker, 3 Great Tit, 3 Goldfinch, 16 Linnet, 5 Chiffchaff and a Sparrowhawk over (Alfie Bloor) At Hodsock today were 30 Swallow, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, 10 Tree Sparrow, 20 House Sparrow, 9 Yellow Wagtail, 22 Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Corn Bunting, Oystercatcher calling plus 3ad. & 4 juv. Buzzard (Mick Clay). Near Dinnington were 2 juv. Tawny Owl (Alfie Bloor).

4th August Along Brands Lane were a Yellow Wagtail, 2 Reed Bunting, 3 Skylark, 4 Linnet, Grey Heron >SE, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 2 Carrion Crow, 15 Woodpigeon and 5 Goldfinch (Alfie Bloor).

31st July At Harry Croft's Quarry were 8 Chiffchaff, 7 Whitethroat, 5 Willow Warbler, 8 Yellowhammer, 16 Swallow, Yellow Wagtail, 2 Kestrel, Buzzard and Hobby hunting (Mick Clay).

30th July At Harry Croft's Quarry today were 32 Chiffchaff, 11 Whitethroat, 9 Willow Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 13 Blackcap, 8 Yellowhammer, Song Thrush, Little Egret, 80 Swift, Buzzard, a pair of Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and Green Woodpecker at Smarson Hills Wood. Langold Lake produced Green Woodpecker, Buzzard, Kingfisher and 4 Great Crested Grebe (Mick Clay). A Hobby >E over Dinnington (Alfie Bloor).

29th July In Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 9 Whitethroat, c33 Goldfinch, 3 Yellowhammer, 6 Great Tit, 9 Woodpigeon, Grey Heron, 4 Carrion Crow, 19 Chiffchaff, 5 Linnet, Hobby hunting, 50+ Swift, Pied Wagtail, 2 Blue Tit, Blackcap, Willow Warbler and a Moorhen. Around Gildingwells this evening were 2 Barn Owl, 38+ Swift, 18 Swallow and a Buzzard (Alfie Bloor). Here also were counts of 29 Chiffchaff, 5 Whitethroat, 14 Willow Warbler, Blackcap, 5 Yellowhammer, 2 Song Thrush, 100 Swift, 65 Jackdaw, 60 Rook and Hobby. Over Anston Stones Wood, a Buzzard. Over South Anston Hobby >S in the afternoon with Swifts plus 2 Buzzard over (Mick Clay).

28th July 64 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 78 Black-headed Gull at Axle Lane (Mick Clay).

27th July At Brown Baileys today were Tufted Duck & 2 juvs, 30 Swift and 20+ Sand Martin nests. Carlton Lake held Little Grebe, 15 Mallard, Kingfisher, 25 Sand Martin, 15 Swift and pair of Great Crested Grebe, each with a juv. on their back. At Langold Lake were 100 Swift, Kingfisher, 3 pair of Great Crested Grebe, one on a nest and 55 Mallard (John Gallagher).

24th July Around the Langold Lake area this morning were Buzzard and Hobby (Mick Scott). A Long-eared Owl at Thurcroft Pit Top today (Dave Jackson).

22nd July In Harry Croft's Quarry today were 20 Goldfinch, 5 Yellowhammer, 6 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, Buzzard, 4 Carrion Crow, 5 Chiffchaff, Green Woodpecker, Song Thrush, 3 Great Tit, 2 Chaffinch, 2 Dunnock, juv. Yellow Wagtail and a Willow Warbler (Alfie Bloor). Plus from here were 11 Yellowhammer, 5 Yellow Wagtail, 22 Chiffchaff, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 2 Little Owl, Oystercatcher >E and Hummingbird Hawk-moth on S boundary (Mick Clay). Same Oystercatcher over South Anston 2 mins before Harry Croft's Quarry record (Andy Murray).

21st July 30+ Swift over Axle Lane (Den & Jan Jarrold).

20th July At Long Thwaite Wood were Buzzard, 3 juv. Kestrel and Mistle Thrush with food (Mick Clay).

19th July Over and around Langold Lake today were Kestrel, Buzzard, Red Kite and Hobby plus 3 Buzzard later (Mick Scott). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included an Oystercatcher over Dinnington at 0219 (Alfie Bloor).

18th July At Langold Lake were 2 Green Woodpecker and a Common Tern (Mick Scott). A m, f and 3 juv. Kestrel sat on straw bales Thwaite House Farm plus Quail singing from the corn field this evening (John Williamson). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Moorhen over Dinnington at 0145 (Alfie Bloor). At Langold Lake today were 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 3 Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush feeding juvs, ad & juv. Buzzard, Common Tern and a juv. Tawny Owl (Mick Clay).

17th July At Gildingwells this morning were 5 Swallow, 2 Starling and 6 Woodpigeon. At Letwell were 3 Yellow Wagtail, Reed Bunting, 7 Skylark, Buzzard and 2 Whitethroat. At Long Thwaite Wood were 7 Goldfinch, 2 Blackbird, Marsh Tit, 2 Chaffinch and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. Lingodell were 9 Canada Goose and 2 Greylag Goose. At Kings Wood were 5 Long-tailed Tit, Marsh Tit and 3 Goldfinch. At Roche Abbey were 2 Great Tit, 2 Coal Tit, 3 Blackcap, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Pied Wagtail, an ad. and 2 Juv. Spotted Flycatcher and 6 Mallard (Alfie Bloor). At Harry Croft's Quarry, a Little Owl, Raven, Green Woodpecker,15 Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Garden Warbler all on west hedge line, plus 3 Song Thrush (Mick Clay).

13th July At Langold Lake this afternoon were 6ad. and 2juv. Mute Swan, 24 Mallard, 1f & 12juv. Tufted Duck, 13ad. & 4juv. Coot, 7ad. & 5juv. Moorhen, 15 Greylag Goose, 6 Great Crested Grebe, 20 House Martin, Black-headed Gull, f Shoveler, Common Tern, Heron and a Green Woodpecker (Andy Hirst). At Langold Lake was a f Tufted Duck with 8 juvs, f Shoveler and a Kingfisher (Mick Clay).

12th July Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Coot over Dinnington at 2335 (Alfie Bloor). In Harry Croft's Quarry today were 17 Whitethroat which included at least 5 juvs, also 2 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 12 Yellowhammer, Yellow Wagtail >S, 2 Siskin >S, Buzzard and Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Mick Clay).

11th July At Dinnington Marsh were Willow Tit, Sparrowhawk and Little Owl in a nestbox with 3+ owlets. Roche Abbey produced Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and 2 juvs, 3 Siskin, 3 Marsh Tit, Tawny Owl, 2ad. and 2juv. 4th July In Harry Croft's Quarry were a Pied Wagtail, 2 Blackbird, 3 Yellowhammer, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Linnet, 11 Goldfinch, 2 Carrion Crow, 7 Woodpigeon, Willow Warbler, Green Woodpecker and 13 Swift (Alfie Bloor).

3rd July At a windy NAPT were Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk (Mick Clay). Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included 2 Redshank over Dinnington at 0007 (Alfie Bloor). A Red Kite by the A57 below Axle Lane (Andy Murray).

2nd July During the evening, in the field near Swinston Hill Wood was a Barn Owl quartering. Also a Grey Partridge and c12 Swift (Alfie Bloor).

1st July At Harry Croft's Quarry were Little Owl, 6 Yellowhammer, 8 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Song Thrush and at Axle Lane were 2 Buzzard, 2 Peregrine and 150 Swift (Mick Clay).

30th June At Langold Lake were 3 Great Crested Grebe inc. one on a nest and a large juv. A Grey Heron, 5 Mute Swan and 2 cygnets, a single m Tufted Duck, a Swallow, Grey Wagtail, 5 Pied Wagtail, 2 Song Thrush, 3 Mistle Thrush, Reed Warbler, 5 Blackcap and 10 Chiffchaff (Geoff & Lyn Facer). Along Brands Lane were a Barn Owl and 18 Swift (Alfie Bloor).

29th June At Red Lane Carlton today were 3 Yellow Wagtail and a juv, 4 Yellowhammer, 20 Linnet, 3 Whitethroat with 2 juvs, 18 Skylark, 142 Rook, 36 Jackdaw, Buzzard and a Kestrel. At Owdy Lane were 2 Yellow Wagtail and at Hodsock were 4 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Tree Sparrow, 15 Skylark, 16 House Martin and a Buzzard (Mick Clay).

Langold Lake revealed 2 Black-headed Gull, 53 Mallard, 8 Coot, 5ad, 2juv. Mute Swan, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 25 Greylag Goose, 4 Tufted Duck, Kingfisher and 3 Moorhen. Nearby Carlton Lake produced a Great Crested Grebe on a nest, 5 Whitethroat, 5 Swift, imm. 25th June At Langold Lake today were 8 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, Reed Warbler on top pond, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Buzzard and Great Crested Grebe on a nest. Also Butterfly counts included 244 Meadow Brown, 87 Ringlet, 134 Marble White, 4 Red Admiral, Comma, Speckled Wood, 4 Small Skipper and 18 Small White. At Harry Croft's Quarry were Raven and a Buzzard. Butterflies here included 64 Meadow Brown, 32 Ringlet, 7 Marble White, a Dark Green Fritillary, Comma, 10 Small Heath, 10 Small Skipper and 14 Tortoiseshell (Mick Clay). 20th June An Oystercatcher at Tommy Flockton's Marsh this morning (Brian Chambers). At Harry Croft's Quarry today were a Hobby hunting the quarry and 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay).

19th June Today were 71 Starling at Gildingwells. At Roche Abbey were 5 Mallard, 2 Grey Wagtail, 4 Swallow and a pair of Spotted Flycatcher feeding chicks at the nest (Alfie Bloor).

18th June We've heard that one of our nest boxes had 3 juv Barn Owl in it, but one juv. left the nest too early and was possibly taken by a cat. (per Mick Clay).

16th June Down Brands Lane today were 6 Linnet, 4 Skylark, a m Reed Bunting and 2 Whitethroat. Down Gildingwells Road were 2 Yellowhammer, 4 Woodpigeon, 2 Goldfinch, 149 Starling (no Rosy!), Kestrel and 2 Swallow. At Letwell, a Swift, 4 Linnet, 4 Skylark and 2 Yellow Wagtail. There was also a roosting Barn Owl off Gildingwells Road. This evening down Brands Lane were 9 Skylark, 14 Linnet and a m Reed Bunting (Alfie Bloor).

15th June Down Brands Lane today were 5 Swallow, 2 Yellowhammer, Blackcap and 4 Whitethroat (Alfie Bloor).

10th June In Harry Croft's Quarry today were Raven, Little Owl, Sparrowhawk, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warbler, 3 Song Thrush and 9 Yellowhammer. All the Little Grebe have left the quarry; the last pair left due to disturbance (Mick Clay).

9th June At Hodsock, to the N side of track, near sewage works in a rape field were 2 Corn Bunting, one in a small hedge running S>N, in rape and one flying from there along main hedge, also 3 Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting , 2 Tree Sparrow, 10 Greenfinch, 9 Whitethroat, Yellow Wagtail, Garden Warbler with food near farm on track, 15 Swallow, 44 Swift, 20 Skylark, Grey Partridge, 21 Lapwing in fields by the farm, near sewage works and 3 Buzzard (Mick Clay). 7th June At Thurcroft Marsh early morning were Garden Warbler, 3 Song Thrush, 6 Chaffinch, 6 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 7 Wren, 3 Blackbird, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Bullfinch, 4 Blackcap, Moorhen and a Jay. At Thurcroft Pit Top were 8 Skylark, 13 Whitethroat, 14 Reed Bunting, 6 Reed Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Yellowhammer, 2 Stock Dove, 4 Mallard, 5 Willow Warbler, 9 Linnet, 2 Meadow Pipit and 4 Bullfinch. Around Roche Abbey were 4 Swallow, 8 Blackcap, 3 Song Thrush, 9 Wren, 6 Blackbird, 6 Chaffinch, 14 Mallard, Moorhen, Heron, a pair of Gadwall and 5 House Martin. From Thornbury Hill were Cormorant, 2 Skylark and a Swift. Unfortunately the bread wielding hordes made it impossible to count the wildfowl at Langold Lake except for the following; 6ad. and 2 juv. Mute Swan, 3 Great Crested Grebe and a nest plus 12 Greylag Goose (Andy Hirst). Plus 15 Swift over Langold Pit Top, Kestrel and Garden Warbler on old pit site (Mick Scott).

6th June Down Brands Lane this morning, a m Reed Bunting and 3 Skylark. Along Gildingwells Road near Letwell were 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Linnet, Whitethroat, 4 Swift and 2 Swallow. In Letwell were 4 House Martin. From Lingodell sheep field was a mixed flock of 12 House Martin and 9 Swallow. Along Kings Wood Lane were Blue Tit, 3 Great Tit and 2 Marsh Tit. Over Stubbings Wood were 2 Buzzard. At Roche Abbey were Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Marsh Tit, 4 Chiffchaff including 2 adults feeding a fledgling, m &f Gadwall, 4 Mallard, Grey Heron, 6 Long-tailed Tit, Moorhen, 4 Mistle Thrush, Swift, 7 House Martin and 5 Swallow (Alfie Bloor).

3rd June 2 Rose-ringed Parakeet >E over a Kiveton house (Alan Bateman). Down Brands Lane today, a Whitethroat, m Reed Bunting, Lesser Black-backed Gull >NW, Black-headed Gull >S, 2 Linnet, 4 Goldfinch, 2 Carrion Crow and 4 Skylark. Over the fields near the Butterfly House were 50+ Swift and 6 Swallow (Alfie Bloor).

2nd June At Plantation Court, Dinnington this morning were 10+ Swift hawking insects. 25th May A Red Kite >S over South Anston this morning (Mick Clay). At Long Thwaite Wood were 2 Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Hodsock Flash, which has now dried up produced 2 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Oystercatcher and 10 Lapwing with juv's (John Gallagher). 9 Buzzard over Thornbury Hill, 4 Buzzard over Kings Wood and 3 Buzzard over Sandbeck (Mick Clay & Andy Murray). Also, a Red Kite >S over South Anston (possibly seen 3 times that day) (Mick Clay). Along Brands Lane were 3 Skylark and a Yellowhammer. In the fields north of Firbeck were 15 Swallow, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 3 Skylark. At Breck Lane, Dinnington were 19 Swift screaming (Alfie Bloor).

Results of a Nocturnal Migration (noc-mig) recording last night included a Coot over Dinnington (Alfie Bloor). Around Langold Lake today was a Green Woodpecker, Treecreeper, 2 pairs of Tufted Duck and a pair of Common Tern trying to settle on one of the metal cage islands (Mick Scott). By Brookhouse Cricket Club a Lesser Whitethroat. At Thurcroft Marsh were 2 Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler. At Thurcroft Pit Top, in the bowl were Jay, 7 Grey Partridge, Snipe, 5 Reed Warbler, and a single Dunlin (John Gallagher).

2nd May At Kiveton Pit Top (Community Woodland) this morning were 15+ Reed Bunting, m Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Cormorant > NE, 20+ Linnet, Mistle Thrush, 4 Bullfinch, a pair of Kestrel, 6 Chiffchaff, 9 Willow Warbler, Grey Heron > E, 4 Yellowhammer, Blackcap, 20+ Whitethroat and a Lesser Whitethroat (John Williamson). On the footpath from Quinn's to Tommy Flockton's Marsh along the Chesterfield Canal was a Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Blackcap and Chiffchaff .

At Tommy Flockton's Marsh, a Lesser Whitethroat by Hard Lane (Geoff & Lyn Facer). At Hodsock today were 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Yellow Wagtail, c12 House Martin and c10 Swallow. At Langold Lake were 2 Common Tern perched on the fishing platform and 4 Great Crested Grebe (Brian Chambers). This morning at NAPT were 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Willow Warbler, Whitethroat, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel and 2 Chiffchaff. Along Gildingwells Road were Lesser Whitethroat (Woodsetts end), 2 Kestrel, 2 Red-legged Partridge, Whitethroat and 3 Swallow. At Letwell were Swallow, 2 Pied Wagtail, 2 Grey Heron >W, Lapwing and 3 Yellowhammer. In the fields N of Firbeck were 12 Swallow, 2 Red-legged Partridge, 7 Pheasant, 2 Skylark, 2 Buzzard and 3 Yellow Wagtail (Alfie Bloor).

Along the Chesterfield Canal from South Anston to Turnerwood were 25 Blackcap, 15 Chiffchaff, Sedge Warbler in hedge by Turnerwood, 19 Wren, 8 Robin, 8 Blackbird, 6 Song Thrush, 2 Nuthatch, 7 Blue Tit, 2 Goldcrest, m Kestrel and f Mallards with 4,8,4 and 7 juvs. At Brancliffe Grange were 4 Mistle Thrush and 8 Swallow. 30th April At least 2 pairs of Great Crested Grebe sitting eggs at Langold Lake plus Kestrel (Mick Scott). This afternoon down Brands Lane were 2 Swallow, Whitethroat and 5 Skylark (Alfie Bloor). At Axle Lane today were 31 Skylark, 3m Reed Bunting, m Yellow Wagtail and Swallow >N. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 17 Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, 4 Little Grebe with 2 nests, a pair of Gadwall and 2 Little Owl (Mick Clay).

29th April At Axle Lane today were 4 f & 1m Wheatear, Sedge Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 29 Skylark and 2 Yellow Wagtail (Mick Clay). At NAPT were 3-4 Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Jay, Grasshopper Warbler and Tawny Owl in Copse opposite horse stables. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh, a Little Egret and along the Chesterfield Canal from Tommy Flockton's Marsh to South Anston were 17 Chiffchaff, 10 Blackcap and Marsh Tit. Just off the Chesterfield Canal in a hedge, a further m Common Redstart showing well and in same small hedge, a Little Owl and Marsh Tit. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Little Owl, Swallow and Little Ringed Plover, plus Red Kite high over.. On the Chesterfield Canal from Tommy Flockton's Marsh to South Anston were 19 Chiffchaff , 3 Blackcap and Bullfinch. Early morning at Tommy Flockton's Marsh were Water Rail feeding in a dike, Little Egret and 24 Wigeon. On the Chesterfield Canal from Tommy Flockton's Marsh to to South Anston were 14 Chiffchaff, 21 Fieldfare >N, Marsh Tit and 5 Buzzard. Over Loscar Wood were 4 Buzzard and over Anston Stones Wood were 2 Buzzard. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 3 Buzzard, 2 Raven, 49 Jackdaw At Axle Lane late afternoon were 52 Golden Plover >S (Mick Clay). Also at Harry Croft's Quarry this morning were 8 Skylark, 6 Mallard, 8 Yellowhammer, Cormorant >S, 4 Grey Partridge, 9 Goldfinch, 4 Meadow Pipit, 6 Stock Dove, c40 Jackdaw, 19 Linnet, Little Owl, 3 Buzzard, 2 Raven, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Coot, 2 Greylag Goose, Heron >S and a m Kestrel. On Carlton Lake were 28 Greylag Goose, 2 Coot, a pair of Gadwall and a Great Crested Grebe. Nearby Buckwood Farm produced 8 Buzzard and 3 Skylark with Brown Bailey's pond holding 5 Coot, 5 Mallard, 18 Tufted Duck and a pair of Great Crested Grebe (Andy Hirst). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh later were Water Rail & Little Egret (Mick Clay).

22nd March At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 2 Little Egret, 23 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 4 Mallard, 2 Buzzard, 4 Moorhen and 8 Pied Wagtail (Geoff & Lyn Facer). Along Brands Lane and nearby woodlands today were 3 Buzzard, Kestrel, Reed Bunting, 17 Yellowhammer and 12 Skylark. At Gildingwells were Buzzard & Chiffchaff. Roche Abbey produced 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Buzzard and a Kestrel (Alfie Bloor).

At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 22 Wigeon and 7 Teal. >N over the Chesterfield Canal by Station pub, a Red Kite, 6 Chiffchaff and calling Tawny Owl by the Chesterfield Canal. At Smarsons Hill Wood were 4 Buzzard and Blackcap singing. Over Old Spring Wood were 3 Buzzard plus 3 more Buzzard over Anston Stones Wood (Mick Clay).

20th March At Axle lane just a single Wheatear. A t Smarsons Hill were 2 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel displaying. At Hawks Wood were 4 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel displaying. By Old Spring Wood, a Buzzard. At Anston Stones Wood were 2 more Buzzard and over Lindrick Dale were 2 Buzzard. Harry Croft's Quarry produced 8 Golden Plover >N, Buzzard and 2 Raven (Mick Clay). Today down Brands Lane and in nearby woods were 34 Yellowhammer, 6 Skylark and 2 Grey Partridge (Alfie Bloor).

At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 22 Wigeon and 8 Teal. Along the Chesterfield Canal towards South Anston were 5 Chiffchaff. At the end of First Lane near the Chesterfield Canal, a m Stonechat. In Harry Croft's Quarry 2 Raven, 3 Buzzard and Little Owl calling (Mick Clay). Plus 18 Meadow Pipit, 3 Pied Wagtail, 36 Linnet and Little Grebe as well as 5 Chiffchaff in Anston Stones Wood (Alfie Bloor).

A trip around the SK58 wetlands; At Roche Abbey were 7 Mallard and 6 Teal. Langold Lake held 7 Mute Swan, 25 Mallard, 9 Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant and 11 Moorhen. At the end of First Lane by the Chesterfield Canal were Tawny Owl calling, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Buzzard and m Kestrel. 12th January A walk from Shireoaks to Hawks Wood produced 12 Robin, 12 Long-tailed Tit, 25 Blackbird, 10 Blue Tit, 2 Song Thrush, 4 Cormorant, 3 Bullfinch, 2 Nuthatch, 7 Mallard, Heron, a pair of Mute Swan, 3 Moorhen, 12 Pied Wagtail, 2 Grey Wagtail, f Kestrel, 2 Marsh Tit, 18 House Sparrow and a Sparrowhawk. Hawks Wood was very quiet indeed producing a single tit flock consisting of 8 Long-tailed Tit, 4 Blue Tit and 2 Coal Tit, Other birds includes just Song Thrush, 2 Blackbird, Buzzard, & a Great Spotted Woodpecker (Andy Hirst).At Axle Lane were 400 Fieldfare and 200 Starling feeding together (Mick Clay). At Thurcroft Pit Top were Long-eared Owl, 3 Barn Owl (one possibly dark variant, continental type) (John Gallagher).

15th December At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 70 Pink-footed Goose >W, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 16 Fieldfare and a Song Thrush (Mick Clay).

13th December Birds at Langold Lake today included 40-50 Goldfinch and a Little Grebe (Mick Scott).

11th December At Axle Lane today wereYellow-legged Gull with 20 Black-headed Gull and 2 Great Black-backed Gull >S plus 40 Skylark (Mick Clay).

10th December A pair of Shoveler still present at Langold Lake (Mick Scott).

9th December Five members took part in the Monday walk at Langold Lake. Among species recorded were, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 57 Canada Goose, 7 Pochard, 11 Tufted Duck, 3 Buzzard, 16 Moorhen, Kingfisher, 12 Robin, 34 Blackbird, 2 Fieldfare, Song Thrush, 10 Long-tailed Tit and a Nuthatch (Geoff & Lyn Facer).

8th December At Langold Lake today were Kingfisher, Little Grebe and 4m Pochard on main lake, m&f Shoveler on small pond and close by were 2 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and 28 Chaffinch (Mick Clay). Over Brookhouse were 4 Shelduck >SW. At Roche Abbey were 2 Marsh Tit and single Marsh Tit at Stone (John Gallagher & John Williamson).

7th December A walk from Laughten-en-le-Morthen to Firbeck and return produced- Along Eastfield Lane were 38 Redwing, 26 Herring Gull >W, 6 Robin, 8 Blackbird, 2 Mallard, Cormorant, 3 Buzzard, 2 Stock Dove, 59 Golden Plover, 11 Greylag Goose >E, 3 Siskin and 21 Red-legged Partridge. Around Roche Abbey were Jay, 6 Chaffinch, 3 Nuthatch, a pair of Grey Wagtail, 3 Mallard, 3 Teal, Little Grebe, 21 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Herring Gull, Kestrel, Buzzard and a Heron. Around Stubbings Wood were 5 Yellowhammer, 6 Long-tailed Tit, 6 Skylark, c300 Linnet in old rape/ set aside, 14 Black-headed Gull and 2 Buzzard. At Lingodell were 23 Starling and 700 Woodpigeon (Andy Hirst).

6th December A Brambling and Tawny Owl in Long Thwaite Wood (John Williamson). At Langold Lake today were a pair of Shoveler still and 3 Brambling in the old pit yard (Mick Scott).

2nd December At Axle Lane today were 150 Skylark, 9 Pied Wagtail, 50 Fieldfare, 60 Golden Plover and 5 Greylag Goose >W (Mick Clay).

1st December At Carlton Lake today were Water Rail and 4 f Goosander (John Gallagher & John Williamson).
