31st December Langold Pit Top produced 18 Fieldfare, 10 Meadow Pipit, 14 Blackbird, 19 Golden Plover. Langold Lake held 49 Mallard, 27 Coot, 154 Black-headed Gull, 11 Tufted Duck and 40 Siskin. Along Kirk Croft Road today were 12 Blackbird, 4 Common Gull, 58 Lapwing, Willow Tit. At Lingodell were 134 Canada Geese and 4 Common Gull. Roche Abbey revealed Buzzard, 5 Teal, whilst Carlton Lake produced single F Wigeon. 28th December At Firbeck were 2 Nuthatch, 19 Greenfinch and 2 Kestrel. Roche Abbey held 2 Marsh Tit, Buzzard and 2 Sparrowhawk, plus 31 Teal and 7 Moorhen, with 46 Lapwing >W. Axle Lane held 1000 Golden Plover with 39 Grey Partridge and 26 Skylark 27th December Woodcock in flight mid morning at Stone. In Anston Stones Wood were 2 Sparrowhawk, 10 Long-tailed Tit, 10 Blue Tit, 8 Great Tit, 8 Blackbird, 6 Goldcrest, with 1000 Golden Plover at Axle Lane. 26th December Along First Lane were 7 Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, 14 Stock Dove, 20 Magpie, Teal, 6 Carrion Crow, 9 Yellowhammer, 300 Woodpigeon and 13 Grey Partridge. 24th December At Langold Pi Top were 26 Blackbird, Little Owl, Snipe, 3 Yellowhammer, Green Woodpecker, 3 Bullfinch, Jay, 16 Skylark, 20 Meadow Pipit. On or around Carlton Lake were 26 Coot, 5 Moorhen, Mute Swan, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 137 Black-headed Gull, 8 Tufted Duck, 60 Siskin, 2 Lesser Redpoll and 500 Woodpigeon. 22nd December 9 Yellowhammer at Kirk Croft Road, plus 12 Fieldfare 20th December Even though most of the water was frozen there was plenty of activity on the scrape at NAPT and brook including 50+corvids, 7 Black-headed Gull , 3 Common and 2 Herring Gulls. 5 Moorhen in brook along with pair of Grey Wagtail, Dunnock, Wren and (m) Green Woodpecker. Kestrel roosting at corner of Sewage site/culvert bridge, plateau held 15 Goldfinch, a pair of Mistle Thrush, 8 Meadow Pipit and single Jack Snipe. Alcove Plantation held plenty of Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Blue & Great Tits with 7 Long-tailed Tits in trees near college fields. 19th December Grey Wagtail feeding in garden at Kingswood Close 18th December At Langold Pit Top were 21 Blackbirds, 12 Fieldfare, 12 Meadow Pipit, 2 Green Woodpecker (m), 3 Coal Tit, 4 Skylark, Woodcock, Cormorant >W, 400 Woodpigeon, 221 Golden Plover (in nearby field). On Langold Lake were 9 Pochard (8m&1f), 157 Siskin, 1 Lesser Redpoll, 200 Black-headed Gull. At Axle Lane were 1000 Golden Plover, 2 Grey Heron, 9 Grey Partridge and 12 Moorhen. A Pair of Stonechat at NAPT Today, plus 8 Siskin, 3 Bullfinch and Lesser Redpoll 13th December A Jack Snipe today at Carlton Lake 11th December At Brampton Common were a pair of Stonechat, Treecreeper, Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and 3 Goldcrest. At Langold Pit Top were Green Woodpecker, Sparrowhawk, 5 Siskin, 7 Lesser Redpoll, 14 Goldfinch, 21 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Bullfinch, 7 Yellowhammer and a Woodcock going to roost plus 1500 Rook and 200 Jackdaw. On Langold Lake were Gadwall, Great Crested Grebe ,Common Gull and 119 Black-headed Gull. 10th December 5 Teal on Tommy Flockton's Marsh this afternoon 9th December Greenlands Park: Rookery very active with approx 25 birds present. Song Thrush and variety of Tits near entrance. Single Great Spotted Woodpecker in wood overlooking field SW with Grey Heron over >SE. Netherthorpe Plantation: 20 Collared Dove, 13 Woodpigeon, 3 Brambling. Alcove Plantation: Pair of Green Woodpecker ground feeding SE, Nuthatch in Rowan, f Sparrowhawk present SE. College Fields: 4 Fieldfare, 25 Carrion Crow 6 Rook and 7 Jackdaw with numerous Magpie throughout. Sewage Works: Despite heavy plant good numbers of Greenfinch, Chaffinch & Goldfinch, plus Grey Wagtail present. Overflow: Pair of Pheasant E, 12 Pied Wagtail, 3 Mallard and 5 Moorhen. On wader scrape were Lesser Black-backed Gull and 5 Black Headed Gull with Kestrel on edge of 1st island bathing and then continued preening on roof of Hide! Good numbers of Corvids and constant passage of Meadow Pipit and Goldfinch. Cramfit Copse: Pair of Bullfinch, Dunnock, Wren, Greenfinch and 7 Long-tailed Tit, single Green Woodpecker and Stonechat on fence post SE. 8th December On the Chesterfield Canal were 3 Mute Swan, 89 Mallard, 13 Tufted Duck, a returning??? Water Rail, 16 Moorhen, 4 Coot, single Kingfisher and 8 Siskin. Merlin through Axle Lane early morning 6th December Carr into Slade Hooton on Carr Lane just before the junction with High Hooton Road, a Barn Owl flew due north out of the farm buildings at the junction around 16:30. Bird flew across in front of a car at no more than 8 ft off the ground and headed off across the field up towards the little track known as Howe Lane. 5th December Kingfisher feeding in garden at Kingswood Close, Firbeck, dawn and dusk 5th December and dawn 6th December. At NAPT was a reported Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, this the first ever reported here. Jack Snipe on top plateau of pit top 27th November 6 Long-eared Owls at a local roost, At the same site a ringtail Hen Harrier, first heard calling, flew SE. At Grange Farm were 60 Chaffinch, 15 Tree Sparrow and 9 Lapwing. At Hodsock were 2 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel, 25 Teal, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 70 Black-headed Gull, 6 Golden Plover, 60 Lapwing, 3 Snipe and 1 Lesser Redpoll >S 22nd November Carlton Lake held 11 Teal, a pair of Wigeon, single Snipe and 15 Mallard. At Langold Lake were 45 Mallard, 17 Coot, Mute Swan, male Pochard and Wigeon, 21 Tufted Duck, 2 Gadwall, 5 Great Crested Grebe, c300 Fieldfare, at least 50 Siskin, single Kingfisher and 150 Black-headed Gull. 21st November Very active female Sparrowhawk at Alcove Plantation mid morning. A regular here, often taking Collared Doves. 3 Bramblings in Netherthorpe Plantation (off Nursery Road, N. Anston). East Field Lane, Laughton held c300 Black-headed Gull, 75 Lapwing and c150 Fieldfare. 20th November Very active female Sparrowhawk at Alcove Plantation mid morning. 3 Bramblings in Netherthorpe Wood. Quiet morning at NAPT. Several Herring Gull >S, plus Great Black-backed Gull >N, 2 imm Cormorant >W, 7 Bullfinch by railway line and Siskin >S. At Firbeck were 4-500 Fieldfare, plus Nuthatch, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, Great Spotted and Green Woodpecker, Treecreeper and Lesser Redpoll, although the highlight were at least 2, possibly 3-4 Hawfinch in the tree tops. On the pond were 3 Teal, Little Grebe, 8 Tufted Duck, 14 Coot, 17 Mallard and a pair of Shoveler >N. 12 Cormorant flew >W, this, the highest ever square count. Among the 200 Canada Geese were single Greylag Goose. Langold Lake was partially frozen, but produced 47 Mallard (good count), 12 Tufted Duck, single Mute Swan, 14 Coot, 4 Great Crested Grebe, Common Gull, 9 Siskin and a pair of Kingfisher. At a site within the square 4 Long-eared Owls were roosting. CAN PEOPLE WHO KNOW OF THIS ROOST INFORM THE RECORDER IF THEY INTEND TO VISIT, so we can co-ordinate visits to minimise disturbance. 17th November Early morning stroll around NAPT produced Kingfisher , single Green Woodpecker on plateau slopes, 5 Bullfinch in treeline parallel to railway, large flocks of Linnet & Goldfinch in/on willow plantation NW, approx. 10 Pied Wagtail on turned earth in sewage site, 18 Mallard and 2 Teal on scrape 15th November Female Goldeneye at Langold Lake today 13th November A Search of Langold Pit Top revealed 3 Kestrel, 1 Little Owl, 5 Carrion Crow, 200 Golden Plover, on Langold Lake were 150 Black-headed Gull and 3 Great Crested Grebe. 12th November Long-eared Owl roosting at site within the square. No sign of the Barn Owl at Gildingwells crossroads this evening, but at least 2 Little Owls. At NAPT were 12 Blackbird, 2 Siskin, 11 Lesser Redpoll, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Brambling, 7 Bullfinch, 30 Linnet, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Grey Wagtail, 12 Skylark, 3 Song Thrush, 1 Kestrel, 2 Willow Tit and single Snipe. At Brampton Common were 14 Grey Partridge, 1 Cormorant >W, 14 Lesser Redpoll, 14 Yellowhammer, 47 Mallard, 1 Snipe, 1 Sparrowhawk and 43 Lapwing. Along East Field Lane were 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 17 Lapwing >S, 100 Skylark,1000 Woodpigeon and 14 Yellowhammer. At Axle Lane were 142 Black-headed Gulls. 10th November At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 150 Starling, 2 Heron, 3 Grey Partridge, 1 male Kestrel and 9 Long-tailed Tit. By the Chesterfield Canal near Kiveton were 6 Bullfinch, 2 Grey Wagtail, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 30 Siskin, 1 Buzzard, 12 Chaffinch, 7 Goldcrest, 7 Moorhen, 1 Marsh and 1 Willow Tit. 8th November A Wildfowl count produced the following. At Brown Bailey's: 27 Coot, 11 Tufted Duck, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 11 Black-headed Gull, 1 Heron, 4 Moorhen and single Marsh Tit. At Langold Lake were 4 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Mute Swan, 31 Mallard, 3 Mistle Thrush, 35 Redwing, 23 Coot, 7 Tufted Duck, 41 Black-headed Gull, 10 Moorhen, 2 Pied Wagtail and 1 Grey Wagtail. Roche Abbey produced 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 15 Teal, 1 Grey Wagtail and 4 Mistle Thrush. 6th November A Barn Owl gave excellent views at Dusk at Gildingwells crossroads 5th November 2 Stonechat at Wallingwells today. At NAPT were Kestrel hunting over eastern slope of plateau. The wader scrape held 9 Black-headed Gull, with large numbers of corvids SE and 5 Grey Partridge >E, 9 Redwing in railway treeline >NW, Cramfit Brook held 5 Moorhen and 2 Grey Wagtail, nice Stonechat (m) on fencepost SE on overflow. Good numbers of passerines in Alcove Plantation. Good movement south here of Woodpigeon, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Black-headed Gull, Meadow Pipit, Fieldfare, Starling and 69 Pink-footed Goose >NE, 5 Lesser Redpoll, 4 Bullfinch and Jack Snipe flushed by corvids into overflow area 1st November A run around the waters produced : At Brown Bailey's were 26 Coot, 8 Tufted Duck, Pochard and Little Grebe. Carlton Lake produced 12 Moorhen, 4 Mallard, 4 Coot, 5 Ruddy Duck, male Goosander and a m Buzzard over. Langold Lake held 35 Mallard, 26 Coot, 9 Tufted Duck, 5 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Wigeon, 7 Moorhen, Mute Swan, Kingfisher and Buzzard. At Langold Pit Top were 7 Meadow Pipit, 9 Skylark, 2 Bullfinch, and 100 Pink-footed Geese over Shireoaks. 29th October A wander along the Chesterfield Canal (S.Anston to Old Spring Wood) produced 3 Lesser Redpoll, 22 Fieldfare > S, 2 Siskin, 4 Little Grebe, 5 Goldcrest and Grey Wagtail. At Anston Grange Farm were Brambling, 50 Redwing, 30 Fieldfare, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Sparrowhawk, 7 Grey Partridge, 7 Bullfinch and 65 Pink-footed Geese >W. In the First Lane Pond were 15 Teal, and Little Grebe 27th October Axle Lane again: 3000 Golden Plover, 20 Redwing >S, 300 Woodpigeon >S, 44 Grey Partridge, 50 Skylark and 15 Meadow Pipit >S, plus Goldcrest, 2 Corn Bunting, Cormorant >S and Buzzard >SE ( late evening) 25th October Axle Lane today produced 30 Skylark, 54 Grey Partridge, 57 Pink-footed Geese >E in heavy rain, 200 Redwing, 50 Fieldfare >S and 2500 Golden Plover. At 16:15 2 Buzzard circled adjacent to the drive entrance of Lindrick Golf course on the A57 23rd October Along First Lane today were single Brambling >S, 7 Lesser Redpoll>W, 23 Yellowhammer, Sparrowhawk, 10 Skylark, Blackcap, and 21 Teal on small pond, with Heron and Little Grebe, also Little Owl nearby. To east of the quarry, sat on wire fence was a female Stonechat. A quick hour at NAPT in the pouring rain this am produced 33 different species including single Grey Heron near scrape, with a good passage of Redwing with approx 35 on treeline parallel with railway, 11 Grey Partridge in Willow plantation, pair of Kestrel over slopes of plateau, mobbed by corvids, 2 Grey Wagtail, 4 Mallard and 11 Moorhen on Cramfit Brook (influx), 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls >W and female Sparrowhawk hunting starlings near Church Lane. Scrape held 2 Teal, 8 Mallard, pair of Stock Dove plus good numbers of corvids E including at least 10 Jackdaw. 21st October Golden Plover at Axle Lane rose to 1000 birds with, 80 Grey Partridge, 30 Skylark, single Corn Bunting and a very late Wheatear on the wall late evening 20th October Back at Axle Lane were 166 Redwing>S, 2 Brambling >S, 5 Siskin >S, 2 Grey Partridge,6 Corn Bunting, 22 Skylark and 500 Golden Plover. Jack Snipe on set aside at rear of Carlton Wood. 18th October Over Axle Lane today were 6 Brambling >S, 56 Redwing >S, 4 Siskin >S, 39 Grey Partridge, 300 Golden Plover and the observers first Kingfisher here. 16th October At Langold Pit Top today were a steady passage of Redwing, with 641 >S, 2 Brambling, 41 Fieldfare>S, 4 Bullfinch, 19 Golden Plover in field opposite, 14 Lesser Redpoll >S, 15 Siskin >S, 3 Snipe >W, 11 Skylark, and 12 Long-tailed Tit. On Langold Lake were 6 Great Crested Grebe. At NAPT was a steady passage of Redwing, with several hundred >S, plus plenty of Song Thrush, 7 Lesser Redpoll, 7 Skylark, Chiffchaff, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Snipe, single Teal, and a Mute Swan on the scrape 15th October At Langold Pit Top still single Stonechat (female) plus 30 Redwing 14th October Today at Axle Lane: 66 Grey Partridge, 2 Redwing >S, 21 Linnet >S, 14 Pied Wagtail >S, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Mute Swan, 300 Golden Plover, 20 Skylark and 3 Wheatear. Highlight of the day were 3 Stonechat at Langold Pit Top (2f 1m) 13th October In a run of road kills, a Barn Owl was seen at the side of the A57 near the Todwick cross-roads, Sadly a ringtail Hen Harrier was picked up at the side of the road between Oldcotes and Styrup today. At Axle Lane were 2 Wheatear, 27 Grey Partridge, 300 Golden Plover and 150 Skylark 10th October Highlight of the morning was an imm. Arctic Skua, (first for square) NW over Axle Lane, plus 3 Wheatear along wall near Anston end, as well as 1000 Golden Plover and 70 Grey Partridge late evening as well as 50 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 20 Black-headed Gulls, 19 Skylark, 4 Heron and a Peregrine early morning. 9th October At Axle Lane today were 3 Wheatear on wall side, 46 Grey Partridge, 36 Skylark, 8 Stock Dove, 51 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 60 Black-headed Gull, 2 Corn Bunting, 1000 Golden Plover and 20 Linnet. At Kiveton Pit Top were 3 Chiffchaff, Grey Wagtail, 46 Mallard >W, 47 Canada Geese again >W and 35 Skylark. 4 Swallows heading over fields on the Gateford estate today 8th October At Smarson Hills were 32 Grey Partridge, 26 Yellowhammer, 20 Pied Wagtail and a Buzzard. Along the Chesterfield Canal were 7 Siskin, 4 Little Grebe, 3 Grey Wagtail and a Kingfisher. At Harry Crofts were 12 Grey Partridge. At NAPT this morning were 20 Skylark, 2 Redwing (first of autumn), 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Teal, 4 Siskin >S and 3 Lesser Redpoll. Over Roche Abbey were 2 Buzzard and Sparrowhawk, plus 3 Teal, Siskin, and several Marsh Tit. Late evening at Axle Lane produced 2 Wheatear along wall by cross over, 1000 Golden Plover, 65 Grey Partridge, 18 Skylark and 2 Heron 7th October Just 300 Golden Plover 300, a pair of Mute Swan, 24 Grey Partridge, 19 Skylark, and Merlin > S late evening. At NAPT were 16 Lapwing, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Swallow >E, 48 Magpie, 31 Black-headed Gull, 2 Grey Partridge, 3 Bullfinch, c75 Linnet and 15 Mallard 6th October 1500 Golden Plover, with Wheatear, 41 Grey Partridge, Mute Swan and 2 Kestrel. At Langold Lake today were 3 Nuthatch, 43 Mallard, 25 Coot, 22 Tufted Duck, 1 imm. Great Crested Grebe, female Blackcap, 2 Mute Swan, Siskin and 4 Mistle Thrush. At nearby Carlton Lake were 21 Mallard, a female Ruddy Duck with 4 young + 1 other young bird and a Pair of Gadwall 4th October An ad. male Peregrine today at Axle Lane, plus 139 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 220 Golden Plover and a Chiffchaff, as well as 60 Skylark, 6 Grey Heron, 220 Golden Plover, 7 Grey Partridge and a Grey Wagtail. 106 Lesser Black-backed Gulls over NAPT. 3rd October Again at Axle Lane-5 Greylag Geese >W, with imm. Peregrine and Snipe in stubble 29th September At Axle Lane today were 67 Black-headed Gulls, 250 Rook, 250 Golden Plover, 20 Skylark, 4 Heron, 1 Siskin >S, a Buzzard and 3 Cormorants fishing n pond. 27th September A good day at NAPT. Constant passage of Meadow Pipit, 2 Siskin, 20 Greenfinch and 40 Goldfinch feeding/ bathing on track puddles, 9 Grey Partridge, pair of Kestrel, 10 Skylark, 4 Bullfinch, 39 Lapwing, Blackcap, 2 Lesser Redpoll and a Chiffchaff. At Kings Wood corner, an hour produced 5 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk, although the highlight were 96 Pink-footed Geese >SE 25th September A steady passage of Meadow Pipit @ NAPT, 6 Reed Bunting, 4 Skylark, 2 Grey Wagtail, 6 Chiffchaff, 9 Grey Partridge, Blackcap, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Teal, and 4 Siskin. At Axle Lane Golden Plovers topped 500 birds. Roche Abbey produced 2 calling Tawny Owls, 4 Jays (on passage?) and 2 Siskin. The Green Sandpiper remains at Hodsock, along with 2 Snipe, also 2 Yellow Wagtail, 3 Teal, 2 Buzzard, Lesser Redpoll and a Sparrowhawk. 22nd September A pair of Barnacle Geese (Escapes) today at Carlton Lake mixed in with 150+ Canada Geese 21st September 6 Buzzard over Loscar. At Axle Lane were 20 Meadow Pipit >S, Wheatear, 37 Grey Partridge 2 Lesser Redpoll >S, Grey Wagtail >N, 115 Golden Plover and 80 Canada Geese 20th September Over Axle Lane today were 14 Meadow Pipit >S, 182 Golden Plover, 94 Canada Geese, 3 Wheatear, 16 House Martin and a Siskin >S 19th September At NAPT the area around the Sewage Works held 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and good numbers of Corvids, Top Plateau pond edges held 8 Linnet and pair of Meadow Pipit with 35 Goldfinch feeding on Teasel. Wader Scrape held 15 Mallard (3f, 9 Imm 3m), 3 Moorhen on Cramfit Brook and treeline parallel with railway produced single Green Woodpecker and Reed Bunting, NW boundary revealed a covey of 7 Grey Partridge and single Pheasant with Kestrel over Willow opposite Sewage Works. At Axle Lane were 124 Lapwing, 160 Golden Plover, 14 Swallow and 23 Meadow Pipit >S 17th September At NAPT a Ringed Plover went >N, also here were 6 Bullfinch, Lesser Redpoll >S, 4 Grey Wagtail, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 3 Song Thrush, 30 House Martin, 3 Willow Tit, 50 Linnet and 30 Goldfinch. Dinnington Marsh held 4 Siskin, Buzzard and Willow Tit 16th September Today Axle Lane held Wheatear 14th September Still 1 Redstart on path as you enter Dinnington Marsh 13th September At NAPT today: Single Snipe disturbed on pond, pair of Grey Wagtail > E over Cramfit Brook, single Sedge Warbler in sandwich between overflow & scrape, 18 House Martin at Top Plateau Pond. Wader Scrape and surrounds held 4 Jackdaw, 15 Rook, 4 Stock Dove and 8 Woodpigeon with Kestrel hunting on slopes of plateau. Meanwhile at Axle Lane were Wheatear and 100 Golden Plover. 12th September At Axle Lane today: 83 Meadow Pipit >S, single Pink-footed Goose >NE, 18 Swallow >S, 159 Golden Plover, 22 Grey Partridge, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and 5 Siskin. At Firbeck 3 Siskin >N 11th September Again at Axle Lane were 200 Golden Plover, 93 Lesser Black-backed Gulls >S, 3 Snipe, 80 Linnet, 52 Lapwing >W and 34 Grey Partridge. Dinnington Marsh produced 2 imm. Redstarts as you enter track, plus Little Owl calling, 2 Chiffchaff and Whitethroat. At Hodsock the Green Sandpiper showed well on pond, plus single Yellow Wagtail 10th September At Axle Lane today were 511 Golden Plover and 90 Linnet. 9th September At Hodsock were 2 Snipe, 2 Teal, single Chiffchaff, Blackcap and 25 Pied Wagtail. Nearby Carlton Lake produced 23 Mallard, 4 Teal, 9 Coot, 7 Moorhen, single Shoveler, 4 Tufted Duck, 25 House Martin and 20 Swallow. Axle Lane held 161 Golden Plover, 6 Heron, 49 Grey Partridge, 3 Wheatear and 31 Mallard over, 2 Snipe and 90 Linnet 6th September Whinchat and imm Redstart along the main path at Dinnington Marsh this morning, along with 4 Chiffchaff, Sparrowhawk, Hobby, Kestrel and 2 Buzzard. 4th September At Axle Lane today were Hobby and Wheatear 3rd September Tree Pipit >S early morning over Axle Lane plus Yellow Wagtail, Hobby, 100 Golden Plover and 62 Canada Geese. At Anston Grange were 4 Green Woodpecker, 2 Chiffchaff, 12 Stock Dove, 3 Jay, Buzzard and 3 Tree Sparrow. This the first breeding record here since 1994 17th July Over Axle today, the highlight was a Crossbill >NW early morning, plus 6 Corn Bunting and a Yellow Wagtail. At NAPT were Turtle Dove as well as a Hobby that caught a House Martin and flew towards Brampton, before returning to sit on wader scrape. It was then mobbed by Black-headed Gulls. At Cramfit corner were 4 birds mobbing a pair of Carrion Crows for a good 5 minutes in SE corner of scrape. All 4 continued to mob the Carrion Crows, swooping down on them and circling. Carrion Crows departed >E and birds remained on E fringes of scrape. And the Woodlark site to the E of SK58 is now ploughed up with no sign of the birds. 8th June At NAPT a pair of Little Grebe had 3 juvs, plus nearby Turtle Dove. 4 Lapwing at Brampton 3rd June At Brown Bailey's were c17 Sand Martin early morning, not visiting the nest holes very often so unclear as to how many occupied nest holes there are, 14 Coot, + 10 young, 2 Little Grebe + 2 very young chicks, 1 m Ruddy Duck and Long-tailed Tit T family of 14. At Woodsetts were 13 Lapwing in meadow field east of village alongside the road. Highlights from Anston Stones Wood; 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker and 2 Treecreeper. 2nd June At Carlton Lake today were 3m Ruddy Duck, Cormorant resting on side of lake. At nearby Langold Lake were Sedge Warbler in reeds at bottom end of main lake, 4 pairs of Great Crested Grebe+ 2 young, 2 Mute Swan, 38 Canada Geese + 36 young in crèche with just 4 adult birds. Firbeck Hall produced 99 Canada Geese + 7 young (may be more but were in a hollow ). 31st May Kingfisher on Lamb Lane Dyke in garden of 3 Kingswood Close A couple of other snippets: the Mallard with 17 young lost the lot. The Heron had every one of them. We find this in Firbeck. First hatchings during April and May are inevitably lost to the Heron, but later in the season, the Heron stops hunting and later hatchings have a better survival rate. Little Owl bred in Firbeck this year. 30th May NAPT 'Big Sit' didn't produce anything unexpected but did produce 54 species from the hide alone, including good counts Stock Dove, Lapwing, Meadow Pipit, Lesser Whitethroat, Turtle Dove, plus Redshank, Snipe, Heron, Red-legged Partridge and Grey Partridge. 29th May Osprey for an hour over Sandbeck, >S towards Firbeck with fish. Redshank at NAPT wader scrape 6th April Quick hour at NAPT produced pair of Red-legged Partridge in sewage area E near gate @ culvert corner, on scrape were 6 Mallard and pair of Lapwing. Overflow showed Green Woodpecker and 3 Grey Partridge, Reed Bunting, Chiffchaff and Moorhen in sandwich area, College Fields held 4 Fieldfare. Female Mallard at Firbeck with 17 chicks, reduced to 15 on 7th April. 5th April NAPT was fairly quiet, with no movement. 7 Dunnock were counted, 5 Chiffchaff, 9 Wren, plus 14 Meadow Pipit. 5 Mallard also on the scrape, plus 7 Lapwing and Ringed Plover. Blackcap also here as well as Willow Warbler. Single Green Woodpecker, 4 Lapwing, Little Grebe heard, 4 Grey Partridge and m Wheatear. However single Swallow at Wallingwells today 4th April Single m Wheatear at NAPT today. 2 Blackcaps at Carlton Wood today 3rd April at a site in the square were 4 Little Ringed Plover displaying, 4 Ringed Plover displaying, 3 Redshank and 4 Lapwing. At NAPT scrape at lunchtime were 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Mallard, Plateau Pond held 5 Lapwing with several Skylark calling overhead. Pair Kestrel in courtship routine N between brook & industrial units. f Sparrowhawk patrolling treeline NE, pair of Grey Partridge disturbed in scrub with 18 Pied Wagtail on W side of sewage works. Pair of Reed Bunting in "sandwich" area, Alcove Plantation showed Green Woodpecker and Chiffchaff. At Dinnington Marsh today were Buzzard feeding on the floor, 5 Willow Warbler and 4 Chiffchaff, with 6 Lapwing nests at nearby Brampton Common. At Carlton Lake were two male and one female Shoveler. At Top Locks were 1 Willow Warbler singing also 1 Marsh Tit, 4 Chiffchaffs and 2 singing Blackcaps. 2nd April 3000 Golden Plover at Axle Lane this morning. At a site in the square today were Ringed Plover and 4 Little Ringed Plover. At Brampton Common today were 2 Redshank, 4 Lapwing and Little Owl. At Hodsock, despite the lack of any water were single Little Ringed Plover and 10 Lapwing, plus 5 Buzzard, 26 Golden Plover and 200 Fieldfare. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in Carlton Wood again today 1st April 4000 Golden Plover at Axle Lane this morning 31st March Kestrel roosting in the second nest box in the grounds of Safety Kleen (On the round tank), 2 Jay in scrub at far end of Dinnington Marsh, also Green Woodpecker calling. 4 Little Ringed Plover at a site within the square. 29th March A visit to Carlton Wood produced 2 Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers calling and drumming and a third heard calling, plus 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a Buzzard. Carlton Wood is an excellent wood, but greatly underwatched. Hawfinch also occurs here. circa 10 Waxwings on the Gateford estate in the morning, on Eddison Avenue. 3 Willow Warbler at Dinnington Marsh, and single Sand Martin over Axle Lane are the first this year 28th March A party of Waxwing in a members garden at Woodsetts 27th March Chiffchaff at Tommy Flockton's Marsh, single Corn Bunting at Grange Farm. A pair of Great Crested Grebe at Hewett Arms Pond, Shireoaks, plus a pair of Kestrel and Mute Swan. Highlight of the day was a pair of Egyptian Geese at Carlton Lake, these the first square records for 10 years, also here were 2 m Ruddy Duck and 3 Greylag Geese. Langold Lake held 15 Coot, 13 Great Crested Grebe, 8 Tufted Duck, 9 Mallard, single Greylag Goose, plus 4 Chiffchaff and 2 Grey Wagtail. A pair of Wood Lark sang at a site to the east of the square, plus 3 Buzzard. At Roche Abbey 11 Teal were counted, with Little Grebe and a pair of Gadwall at Lingodell. m Wheatear from the hide at NAPT. 26th March 5 Buzzard soaring over Loscar Wood this morning. A 2 hour stroll around the whole of NAPT produced 41 species. Highlights being: 3 Pheasant NE (2f 1m), 5 Grey Partridge E on plateau, single Great Spotted Woodpecker SE, 75+ flock of corvids including 28 Jackdaw at Sewage works (interestingly not a single Gull), female Kestrel at traditional nest sit E, single Willow Tit in Sloe hedge N, single Green Woodpecker on overflow with pair on path between college fields & E slope of plateau, 3 Lapwing displaying NE with mixed flock of 100+ Linnet, Greenfinch and Goldfinch, 4 pairs Mallard, 1 on main scrape, 1 on Cramfit Brook NW and 2 in "sandwich", excellent numbers of Skylark & Meadow Pipit throughout site 25th March North Anston Pit Top produced a modest amount of birds this morning including 5 Chiffchaff, 10 Skylark, over 100 Fieldfare, Little Grebe (seen 2 days previously-the first here for over 10 years) and 3 passage Little Ringed Plover on the wader scrape 24th March An unsuccesful search for the East Field Lane Barn Owl at 21:00 did produce 3 Little Owl, as well as displaying Lapwing and several Golden Plover. At two known Long-eared Owl sites one drew a blank, the other a vocal female, roding Woodcock and Tawny Owl. 23rd March At Langold Lake today were 12 Waxwing and 3 Chiffchaff. At East Field Lane a captive Barn Owl has over recent nights attracted in a wild bird A superb weekends birding, with migration picking up a pace. 21st March Highlight from Axle Lane this morning were a magnificent 48 Whooper Swan low >NW, plus 2 Ringed Plover at Dinnington Pit Top, by roadside pools. 20th March Dawn at NAPT produced 14 Robin, 12 Blackbird, 10 Dunnock, 9 Wren, plus 12 Lapwing displaying. 12 Skylark were also counted. 6 Teal loafed around the wader scrape, with 2 Chiffchaff along Cramfit Brook, although the highlight was a stunning m Ring Ouzel in the first field on the right from Greenlands school, much to the delight of the SK58 year-listers. 5 Waxwing put in a brief appearance at Dinnington behind the Squirrel pub. Last thing at Dinnington Marsh produced Redshank >N, 2 pairs of Kestrels and 122 Pied Wagtails roosting outside the Safety Kleen complex. 19th March NAPT was alive with the song of resident birds, alas the LRP and Stonechat had moved through. 11 Blackbird were recorded, plus 9 Robin, 6 Song Thrush, 11 Wren, 12 Skylark and a steady passage of Meadow Pipit. The highlight were 2 m Wheatear. More single Wheatear were recorded at Axle Lane and Netherthorpe, where the first Chiffchaff was heard. 4 Buzzard from Kings Wood corner, plus a Hawfinch flew out of the wood, calling loudly. Oystercatcher 08:15, seen and heard calling over Throapham. Two Buzzard over Owday Wood this afternoon 18th March The first Little Ringed Plover of the year at NAPT this morning, also 2m Stonechat, which stayed briefly. Also there were 10 Lapwing, 16 Meadow Pipit and 36 Linnet. Woodcock again roding at Langold Pit Top and Water Rail showing well at Turnerwood along the Chesterfield Canal. At Gateford 29 Waxwing on the usual estate in trees near the Worksop -Carlton road. At Langold Lake were: 22 Coot, 1m Pochard, 17 Mallard, 11 Tufted Duck, 52 Canada Geese and an incredible 16 Great Crested Grebe, numbers still rising !?, 1 pair of Sparrowhawk and a Buzzard flying over towards Worksop 16th March Suspected nest sight of Great Spotted Woodpecker sawn down by official workers, in Alcove Plantation, behind Devonshire Drive however bird still in Alcove seen high in mature Rowans. Lapwing have returned to area with 2 on fringe of Plateau Pond, 2 on main Scrape and 8 displaying in NE corner. Hedgerow E of Overflow contained 60+ Linnet, 75+ Fieldfare and pair of Pheasant with Green Woodpecker present on fence post. In Dinnington at 15:30 high above allotments near Silverdales were pair of Sparrowhawk in courtship display, showed for good 10 minutes before >SE 15th March Chesterfield Canal, Kiveton to Stiff's -Included the following -2 pairs Great Spotted Woodpecker, 9 Redwing, 2 Treecreeper, 5 Song Thrush, 3 Tree Sparrow at Kiveton, 4 Coal Tit, 3 Bullfinch, 7 Goldcrest, 3 Nuthatch, 4 Little Grebe. Plus 5 Water Voles along this stretch. At Toplocks were 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker. At Turnerwood the Water Rail showed well in usual spot, swimming along the bank side, with 10 Mallard, 25 Tufted Duck and a pair of Mute Swan nest building. 14th March Still 7 pairs of Great Crested Grebe displaying at Langold Lake, along with a pair of Goosander on top lake. 8 Goldfinch in trees at top end of top lake, 1 Goldcrest on S shore of top lake, 4 Treecreeper, 2 at top lake 2 near weir between lakes, Green Woodpecker on Langold pit top. Great Spotted woodpecker (x2) drumming in Dyscarr Woods and 10 Pied Wagtails in group near playground. At least 50 Waxwings flying around the Carlton in Lindrick village -Windsor Road area at 08:00. Settling briefly in trees and bushes. Stayed about 10 mins. A Buzzard over Loscar Wood today. Whilst at Langold Pit Top were 2 Woodcock, Snipe, Tawny Owl and 220 Jackdaw going to roost, 6 Great Black-backed Gull >E and 1000 Golden Plover in field opposite. 13th March On Carlton Lake were 3 Goosander (1m & 2 f), 25 Redwing, 15 Fieldfare and the leucistic Moorhen, plus 3 m Ruddy Duck. In the Broom Farm area were 3 Buzzard and 2 Sparrowhawk. Kings Wood corner produced 3 Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, calling Hawfinch and Tawny Owl. Thornbury Hill produce more Buzzard (3). On Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 10 Teal and 2 Kingfisher. Along the Chesterfield Canal were 88 Fieldfare, Tawny Owl, Marsh Tit, 2 Little Grebe, 3 Jay and 2 Water Vole. 12th March East Field Lane held 200 Golden Plover. At Lingodell were 16 Wigeon and 60 Fieldfare. Roche Abbey produced 20 Teal, Little Grebe, 4 Buzzard, Marsh Tit and 2 Grey Wagtail. From nearby Kings Wood corner were Hawfinch, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, and a pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker. 10th March Water Rail still present at Turnerwood calling. At Langold Lake was an all time high of 14 Great Crested Grebe (7 pairs displaying). 3 Buzzard were vocal over Langold Pit Top, with Curlew >N 9th March Peregrine over Axle Lane again this morning. At NAPT today: Grey Heron headed in from NE landing on scrape bank that overlooks Cramfit W at 11:25 -stayed 15 minutes >N probably for Brampton Common. Single m Bullfinch in Cramfit Copse with 10 Fieldfare >W in horses field. Flock of 8 Redwing over >E, pair of Moorhen in brook parallel with main track N, pair of Pheasant in brambles on E edge of overflow, 35 Pied Wagtail on boggy ground opposite overflow. Pair of Skylark NE on plateau with 3 Grey Partridge disturbed on fringes of College fields E. Kestrel in hover on E bank of plateau with Great Spotted Woodpecker and pair of Goldcrest in Alcove Plantation. Glad to report no further corpses found. 7th March 20 Waxwing feeding on Rosehips at Langold Lake today, Nearby 2 Buzzards drifting South over A57 at Brown Bailey's at 13.15. At NAPT too many motorbikes to see anything worthwhile, although a dead Moorhen in Cramfit Brook and a dead Stock Dove on edge of overflow. The air rifles out again, as none were raptor kills. Highlights were a pair of Green Woodpecker, 3 Willow Tit, 92 Fieldfare, 6 Reed Bunting, 40 Grey Geese (presumably Pink-footed Geese) >NW. Single Snipe in the overflow area. At Roche Abbey were 19 Teal and single Buzzard-low. A further 10 Buzzard were counted from Kings Wood corner, Cormorant N also. At a site in the square a male Goshawk flew W. At Lingodell 13 Wigeon were grazing, plus single Greylag Goose and 60 Canada Geese. Carlton Lake held 23 Moorhen, 18 Coot, 4 Greylag Geese, 64 Canada Geese, single Mute Swan and 3m Ruddy Duck. At a site in the west of the square a pair of Long-eared Owls showed well. It's encouraging that this may be a new breeding pair, bringing the total of 3 known breeding pairs 5th March A party of 50+ Waxwing at Gateford at 08:00, by the first roundabout (from the A57), on Ashes Park Drive, although they dispersed to the estate nearby and not relocated. Woodlark have also returned to a now traditional site to the east. 6 Buzzard from Kings Wood corner 3rd March A Merlin through Axle Lane this morning 27th February Clear skies saw Buzzard take to the air, with 8 over Thornbury Hill, and 3 from Kings Wood. By the sewage works at Roche Abbey were c30 Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaff (presumably overwintering birds) 26th February A party of 14 Waxwing briefly at Gateford this morning (per Rare Bird Alert) 25th February A brisk hour spent at NAPT 35 species. Of note included: Alcove Plantation had good count of 32 Woodpigeon, 18 Collared Dove, 17 Blackbird, 3 Song Thrush and single Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming on large rowan . Sewage Works gull count produced 30 Black-headed Gull, 4 Common and 2 Herring with large numbers of corvids including 4 Jackdaw. NE corner was productive with f Sparrowhawk, 19 Fieldfare on boggy ground and in hawthorn, mixed flock of 200+ Linnet, Goldfinch, Greenfinch and House Sparrow, with 23 Lapwing >E. Cramfit Brook produced 6 Moorhen, pair of Mallard and 4 Grey Wagtail with resident Green Woodpecker near overflow meadow. On scrape were 5 Mallard (3m 2f) on edge of pond N near culvert. 4 Redwing present in hawthorn near "sandwich area" with 2 Willow Tit -again no Snipe! 24th February Perhaps not many folk were out in the wintery conditions, as few records have been received. 137 Lapwing were counted at Slade Hills, with 50 Teal at Roche Abbey and 21 Skylark at Throapham. 20th February A very windy and chilly NAPT was, not surprisingly fairly quiet. 70 Pied Wagtail were feeding amongst the willow saplings. c100 Linnet were also feeding here. Kingfisher put in a brief appearance along Cramfit Dike. Roche Abbey produced single Buzzard-low, 18 Mallard and 13 Teal. Kings Wood corner was also quiet with several Nuthatch, 5 Buzzard, Tawny Owl, 27 Lapwing >N, Hawfinch calling and 6 Common Gull. Langold Lake was windy but held; 22 Tufted Duck, 25 Mallard, 24 Coot, 10 Canada Geese, single Mute Swan and m Pochard, plus 3 Lesser Redpoll feeding in Alders. 19th February A stroll down the Chesterfield Canal produced 4 Little Grebe, with several Marsh Tit, 7 Bullfinch, 200 Fieldfare, Tawny Owl, plus the Water Rail near Turnerwood showed very well indeed. Carlton Lake held an early 5 Ruddy Duck (2 pairs & imm male), plus a pair of Gadwall, 22 Moorhen (incl. Leucistic bird still) and imm. Mute Swan. 17th February The Water Rail seen again just N of Turnerwood along the Chesterfield Canal 12th February A windy Roche Abbey produced 28 Teal, 10 Mallard, 4 Bullfinch, 3 Heron and Marsh Tit 11th February A couple of hours at Kings Wood corner produced several drumming Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 5 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and singing Hawfinch, plus Tawny Owl, although most bizarre sighting was the 9 foot dead Python in the field!-anyone claim it?! single m Wigeon at Lingodell. 10th February NAPT produced 4 Moorhen, single Snipe, Pheasant, single Reed Bunting and a pair of Mallard in "sandwich" between scrape & overflow. Magilla & Cramfit produced single Mistle Thrush with 5 Fieldfare ground feeding behind Greenlands. Main brook had 3 Grey Wagtail. Plateau showed 7 Feral Pigeon, 5 Skylark singing and hovering, with 12 Magpie on top and pair of Meadow Pipit. Eastside near Sewage held mixed corvids with single Black-headed Gull. NW of site produced male Sparrowhawk in tall hawthorn prior to hunting along trees and bushes parallel with railway. Kingfisher in small brook NW on industrial side of main path and W of middle culvert. 9th February 15.15 over central Dinnington unidentified raptor taking Starlings on wing, attacked from W out of sun, 6 powerful flaps and zoomed in on flock -probable Peregrine Had previously been circling high over St Joseph's School prior to strike for good 10 minutes. 8th February At 11:00 3 Waxwings in trees on St Annes Drive, Gateford again. Netherthorpe Plantation produced good numbers of Tits, 15 Chaffinch, 26 Collared Dove, 2 Song Thrush and a healthy 14 Blackbird. 7th February Alcove Plantation yielded 18 species including Nuthatch, pair of Bullfinch, 5 Robin, 9 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Song Thrush, 24 Woodpigeon ground feeding,10 Chaffinch, 2 Wren and pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker. 6th February an amazing 54 Teal at Roche Abbey, plus 2 Tawny Owl and 200 Pink-footed Geese >W over Laughton-en-le-Morthen 5th February Still 2000 Golden Plover at Axle Lane (there have been none for most of the winter) 4th February 2000 Golden Plover at Axle Lane today. 2nd February NAPT produced 24 Fieldfare, 40 Linnet, the highlight being a Kingfisher feeding in brook that runs parallel with railway just behind industrial site and f Kestrel perched on guttering of factory units. E near Sewage produced 14 Pied Wagtail, 12 Meadow Pipit, 21 Magpie, single Green Woodpecker near culvert and 2 Grey Wagtail on brook. "Sandwich" between Scrape & Overflow showed 2 Willow Tit, 3 Reed Bunting and 6 Moorhen. Scrape very quiet with pair of Black-headed Gull & 13 Jackdaw >E and 3 singing Skylark E of Plateau, nothing on 2 ponds. Alcove Plantation had very good numbers of passerines but pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker absent today. 1st February 9 Corn Bunting at Axle Lane today. 31st January 200 Pink-footed Geese >W over Laughton-en-le-Morthen. 30th January Fairly quiet at NAPT this morning. A few Meadow Pipit moving through, 7 Grey Partridge, 9 Skylark in full song, 5 Snipe >N, 78 Linnet were the highlights. Kings Wood corner was worth a visit. A total of 900+ Pink-footed Geese >NW n an hour, 6 Buzzard, and the highlight a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, briefly. Wildfowl are on the move. 7 Wigeon at Lingodell 10am had gone by 12:30. Both Langold Lake and Carlton Lake held very few wildfowl, the 9 grebes had moved on, as had the Goosander. 28th January Axle Lane produced a male Peregrine, which chased a Golden Plover >S, plus 1500 Golden Plover and 2 Corn Bunting. Carlton Lake held 10 Goosander, 5m & 5f. 23rd January Single Tawny Owl at Kings Wood corner, with 5 Buzzard and 450 Pink-footed Geese >NW. At Langold Lake were: 8 Tufted Duck, 16 Coot, 9 Great Crested Grebe, single Mute Swan, 5 Moorhen, 5 Mallard and a pair of Pochard. Carlton Lake proved worth a visit with: 34 Moorhen, 106 Canada Geese, 6 Mallard, 26 Coot, 2m Goosander, single Gadwall and Tufted Duck. Brown Bailey's revealed 24 Coot, 18 Tufted Duck, single Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe and 3 Mallard. A cold visit to Grange Farm produced 66 Yellowhammer, 4 Tree Sparrow, 400+ Rook, single Buzzard, 500 Woodpigeon and 300 Golden Plover. 22nd January At Carlton Lake were 50 Canada Geese, 3 Kestrel, single Sparrowhawk, 60 Fieldfare, 20 Moorhen and 20 Coot. Langold Lake held 6 Bullfinch, 29 Meadow Pipit, 2 Kestrel, 2 Pochard, 9 Great Crested Grebe, 200 Black-headed Gull, 2 Common Gull, Nuthatch and Jay. At Firbeck Hall a f Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was found by entrance with tit flock. On pond were 200 Canada Geese, Pochard, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Nuthatch. Roche Abbey produced Nuthatch, Grey Wagtail, 3 Goldcrest, Marsh Tit, Treecreeper, 20 Teal, and 8 Grey Partridge. Lingodell produced 118 Canada Geese and single Gadwall. Single Short-eared Owl at Dinnington Marsh at dusk, mobbed by a Crow. 21st January 3 Waxwing in a Gateford garden this morning, the observers first 20th January At NAPT were c220 Linnet. Brown Bailey's held 22 Tufted Duck whilst at Langold Lake 6 Great Crested Grebe and single m Goosander on Top Lake were counted. 18th January Wildfowl seem to be coming and going at the moment. At Langold Lake were 35 Coot, 24 Mallard, 12 Tufted Duck, 27 Canada Geese, 2f Pochard, 8 Great Crested Grebe, 13 Moorhen,1m Gadwall and c145 Black-headed Gull, 8 Mistle Thrush and 25 Fieldfare. At Carlton Lake were 4 Mallard, a staggering 39 Moorhen, 24 Coot, 2 Canada Geese,1 f Tufted Duck, 1 Heron and 2 Fieldfare. In the Churchyard -17 Redwing and 2 Goldfinch. Brown Bailey's held 25 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 27 Tufted Duck, single Great Crested Grebe, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. At Lingodel were 6 Gadwall (3 pairs), 8 Wigeon and c200 Fieldfare 16th January Langold Lake held 6 Tufted Duck, 6 Great Crested Grebe and 3 Pochard (2m 1f). 15th January 2 Long-eared Owls in the Brampton area. 14th January At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were:c100 Fieldfare, c10 Redwing, 1 Heron, 8 Grey Partridge and 14 Moorhen. On the Chesterfield Canal between Norwood to Kiveton -11 Blue Tit single Coal Tit, 4 Moorhen, 2 Black-headed Gull, 3 Great Tit, 7 Long-tailed Tit, 5 Chaffinch, 4 Blackbird, 3 Yellowhammer, 2 Dunnock, 3 Wren, 6 Goldfinch and 2 Bullfinch. At Brampton Common were single m Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Willow Tit, 4 Mallard, 6 Magpie, c40 Rook, 6 Chaffinch, 4 Blue Tit and 2 Great Tit. 6th January 121 Pink-footed Geese W over Axle Lane, plus a roost of 5 Long-eared Owls in the Brampton area. 4th January Peregrine early morning at Axle Lane again. 3rd January At NAPT were Green Woodpecker feeding in overflow meadow with a covey of 7 Grey Partridge on NE bank, male Grey Wagtail feeding in Cramfit Brook, 2 imm. Moorhen same area. Gull roost at Sewage/ Church Lane Industrial Units showed 18 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 2 Herring Gull. 35 Golden Plover >W towards Axle Lane, big corvid flock of Rooks, Crows & Jackdaws >E circa 250+ -seen later over High Nook Dinnington presume heading for rookery near Lodge Farm on Lodge Lane. Nice flock of 30+ Fieldfare on hawthorn along contractors entry to site N with 27 Pied Wagtail & 4 Siskin in NW corner on ground and on plant crop. At Dinnington Marsh were 5 Snipe and single Woodcock. NAPT revealed 51 Magpie and single m Kingfisher. Carr Hill produced 10 Chaffinch, single Brambling, 300 Golden Plover and single Little Owl. 2nd January 40 Goldfinch at Roche Abbey, plus 29 Mallard, but no Teal. At Kings Wood corner were 18 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Marsh Tit, single calling Tawny Owl and single Cormorant >N. At Lingodell were 2 Mute Swan, 38 Canada Geese and 13 Common Gull feeding in the field. Langold Lake produced single Mute Swan, 9 Great Crested Grebe, 24 Coot, 94 Black-headed Gull, 19 Mallard, 12 Tufted Duck, 9 Moorhen and single Lesser Redpoll. Meanwhile Carlton Lake revealed 22 Moorhen, 77 Canada Geese, 2 Tufted Duck, and single Pink-footed Goose (probably genuine). 1st January Water Rail again on Chesterfield Canal just west of Turnerwood. At NAPT were 16 Blackbird, 8 Robin, 52 Redwing, 113 Fieldfare, and skeins of Pink-footed Geese of: 150, 70, 62, 130, plus 27 Herring Gull >W, 4 Great Black-backed Gull, single Kingfisher and 7 Grey Partridge. |
